Position Summary
Assumes responsibility for processing the administrative functions associated with employee benefit actions, including new hires, qualifying events, leaves of absence, and terminations or retirements. In all actions, assumes responsibility for adherence to federal and state laws as well as University policies and procedures as they relate to the human resources function. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.
Hiring Range
Budgeted starting hourly rate is $20.00 to $22.50, depending upon experience
Key Responsibilities
Serves as a primary liaison for short-term disability leaves of absence, workers' compensation, and other leaves of absence.
- Provides oversight and guidance on leave processes for employees. Ensures completion of required documentation, recording of absences, and continued follow-up is completed.
- Acts as a liaison between the supervisor, employee and insurance carrier when appropriate.
- Adheres to all federal and state laws including, but not limited to, CT Paid FMLA, Federal FMLA and ADA.
Acts as first point of contact to employees regarding the University's flexible benefits program including, but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability and life insurances, pre-tax health savings accounts and 403(b) retirement plans.
- Serves as a liaison between the employee and the insurance carrier when necessary and/or appropriate.
- Supports compliance efforts related to the ERISA, FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA and the ACA as well as other federal and/or state mandates regarding access and reporting requirements.
Ensures the timely completion of personnel actions including, but not limited to, benefit enrollments, deductions and/or other related transactions involving the HR function affected by new hire enrollments, terminations, and COBRA administration.
Partners with IT, Payroll and 3rd party benefit vendors and ensure accurate and timely transfer (or manual entry) of benefits data, including enrollment/change information, payroll data, etc. Troubleshoot as required.
Maintains timely and accurate data on both internal systems and the Banner database in compliance with established data integrity standards. Produces related reports as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelors Degree required.
