Assistant Director of Alumni Relations/Events - McDonough School of Business

The Assistant Director of Alumni Relations & Events is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive plan for alumni events at Georgetown University's McDonough School of Business. This role supports the school's efforts to foster meaningful alumni engagement that benefits both the alumni community and the school's broader programs and initiatives. The Assistant Director identifies alumni to assist with student recruitment and career management with events such as serving as speakers at events and in the classroom, serving on boards at the school, and assisting with philanthropic giving.

The Assistant Director coordinates the Alumni Ambassadors Program and events hosted by alumni worldwide. Signature alumni events at the School level include Graduate Reunion Weekend, Undergraduate Reunion activities, the Global Summit, the school's participation in the University's John Carroll Weekend and International Alumni Weekend, and alumni events in cities worldwide. The Associate Director manages these key events planned, executed, or promoted by the school's Office of Alumni Relations.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Plan, organize, and manage alumni events, including signature programs and global gatherings.
  • Manage the Alumni Ambassadors Program, which empowers alumni to represent the school and build community in their local areas.
  • Coordinate the management of the school's alumni data and ensure the accuracy of the data and proper use by colleagues at the school.
  • Execute plans, logistics, catering, and orders for alumni events on and off campus.
  • Support the scheduling, planning, and execution of Lifelong Learning programs by working closely with the rest of the Alumni Relations team and the faculty.
  • Manage the Alumni Relations social media strategy and content updates.
  • Work closely with the Director of Alumni Relations and Corporate Partnerships to engage alumni stakeholders at key companies and organizations to benefit the alumni and the school's corporate sponsorship needs.


Work Interactions

The Assistant Director reports directly to the Assistant Dean of Alumni Relations and Corporate Partnerships. This person works closely with the McDonough Alumni, MSB Faculty, Career Services, Admissions, Program offices, the event and planning team, and direct stakeholders. This position interacts regularly with caterers, event planners, corporate sponsors, student workers, and external stakeholders.

This role directly contributes to the University's mission by fostering meaningful alumni engagement that benefits the alumni community and the school's broader programs and initiatives.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in alumni relations and external affairs with demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers and developing volunteer leadership
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to work collaboratively and courteously with colleagues throughout the organization, including alumni, other constituents, and the public
  • Must have flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently
