Position Announcement

The Department of Applied Engineering and Transportation Technologies (www.uvu.edu/auto) invites applications for a one-year Professional in Residence faculty position in Collision Repair Technology to begin August 2025. (This is a placeholder for a tenure-track position.)

The collision repair technology professional in residence faculty develops and teaches undergraduate courses in collision repair and may teach in one or more of these other areas: fundamentals of vehicle construction, nonstructural repair, structural repair, refinishing, surface preparation, panel replacement, panel, alignment, paint blending, color matching, tinting, detailing, estimating, damage analysis, welding and cutting, plastic repair. Other areas may include automotive repair, diesel and hydraulics, electric or hybrid vehicles, etc. In addition, the professional in residence is engaged service-wise with the community through activities such as community outreach, industry partnering, and curriculum alignment to meet the needs of industry partners. Faculty may be required to teach day, evening, weekend, online, blended, or off-campus courses. (This is a placeholder for a tenure-track position.)

Summary of Responsibilities


  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
  • Engages service-wise with the community through activities such as community outreach, industry partnering, and curriculum alignment to meet the needs of industry partners.


Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications


  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a relevant associate's degree
  • At least two years of relevant industry experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree



Knowledge / Skills / Abilities


  • Knowledge of ASE certifications
  • Knowledge of I-Car certifications and training
  • Knowledge of OEM and industry approved repair techniques
  • Knowledge of industry experience of collision repair and transportation technology procedures and trends
  • Knowledge of and expertise in current technology trends in collision repair and transportation technology
  • Knowledge of advanced vehicle (ADAS), hybrid and electric vehicle systems
  • Knowledge of collision repair and refinishing processes
  • Skills and experience in non-structural, structural, damage analysis, plastic repair, estimating and refinishing of collision damaged vehicles
  • Skills and experience in the analysis and repair of advanced vehicle systems, ADAS/hybrid/ electric vehicles
  • Skills in diagnosis and repair of advanced braking, steering and suspension and supplemental restraint systems
  • Skills in diagnostics and repair of collision damaged electrical systems
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Effective verbal and technical written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Ability to teach lecture and hands-on lab courses.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, agency administrators, and community practitioners from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and initiative in solving problems.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to plan measurable objectives, prepare instructional materials, and follow an approved curriculum.
  • Ability to assess student work and maintain and submit accurate and current plans, reports, and records involving student accountability, attendance, and performance.
  • Ability to use a classroom learning management system, such as Canvas.
