Counseling Center

Job Summary

Provide direct clinical services to students, outreach programming and professional training to the Georgia Southern community on a variety of mental health issues, clinical training and supervision to counseling center trainees, and consultations to faculty and staff regarding college student mental health.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain compliance with Counseling Center policies and procedures
  • Provide individual, couples, and group therapy to Georgia Southern students
  • Provide crisis on-call service in rotation with other clinical staff
  • Provide crisis/triage assessment and response to students
  • Participate in various training programs housed within the Counseling Center
  • Provide clinical supervision to practicum students and Doctoral Interns
  • Provide outreach programming and consultations to campus community
  • Maintain all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for Psychologists in the State of Georgia
  • Coordinate one or more areas of Counseling Center services as requested by Executive Director


Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology

Other Required Qualifications
  • Licensure as a Psychologist in Georgia or the ability to obtain licensure within two (2) years of start date

Required Experience
  • One (1) year of related work experience


Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Certification, certification in process, or willingness to work toward certification as a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), administered by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology. Supervision and support would be provided to the successful applicant for obtaining this credential

Preferred Experience
  • Experience working in a University Counseling Center
  • Experience providing clinical supervision
  • Experience with public speaking
  • Experience with crisis intervention


Proposed Salary

$75,500 - $78,000

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

  • Ability to support various constituencies served by the University
  • Proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Ability to demonstrate superior clinical and therapeutic skills and to foster positive therapeutic relationships with a diverse population of students
  • Ability and willingness to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in a cooperative and respectful manner
  • Ability to manage a caseload of individual, couples, and group therapy clients
  • Ability to document clinical interactions via Electronic Medical Record system
  • Ability and willingness to develop knowledge of College Counseling Center Service Models
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present outreach programming on mental health topic

KNOWLEDGE
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures to meet Institutional goals and support University's mission for student success
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical theories, diagnoses, interventions, treatment planning and therapeutic outcomes
  • Rich understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by diverse populations of students within a higher education setting

SKILLS
  • Effective communication (verbal and written), organizational and human relations skills
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking
