Position Announcement
This Marketing position reports to the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing. The core functions of this position are primarily to promote and advertise for assigned sports to increase Revenue Generation / Ticket Sales, Brand Awareness, and Attendance as well as to produce the in-game atmosphere for assigned sports to increase Fan Experience. This position works in conjunction with campus and community partners to accomplish goals and increase Brand Awareness.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Responsible for the execution of strategic and innovative marketing and communication campaigns for designated intercollegiate athletic sports and programs, resulting in Revenue Generation / Ticket Sales, Fan Experience, Social Media / Broadcasting, Brand Awareness, Innovation / Creativity, Student-Athlete Experience, Community Outreach, and Attendance; including pre-season, season, and post-season events (WAC, BIG 12 Conference, NCAA, etc.). Result expectations also include ensuring game day / event marketing responsibilities are executed, including pre-game, in-game, and post-game activities; focusing on Fan Experience, Social Media / Broadcasting, Innovation and Creativity, Community Outreach, and Attendance, ensuring goals are met and exceeded, and evaluating goals and plans at each season's end.
- Responsible for development and enhancement of digital and social media marketing campaigns (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Tik Tok, Email, Text, TV, Radio, Website, etc.), utilizing owned, paid, and earned media for designated intercollegiate athletic sports and programs. Campaigns include clear understanding of KPIs to drive and optimize target reach, engagement, and conversion across multiple audience types in a time-sensitive manner, focusing on Revenue Generation / Ticket Sales, Fan Experience, Social Media / Broadcasting, Brand Awareness, Innovation / Creativity, Student-Athlete Experience, Community Outreach, and Attendance.
- Foster relationships with campus stakeholders; Athletics Communications, Athletics Corporate Partners and Community Outreach, Athletics Development and Wolverine Club, Athletics Game Operations, University Marketing, University Communications, University Creative Services, University Merchandise & Licensing, University Photography Services, UCCU Center Ticket Office, UCCU Center Production, UCCU Center Concessions, Spirit Squad, PACE, Faculty Senate, Alumni & Development, UVUSA, Clubs and Organizations, UVU Ambassadors, RCL Program, Orientation Leaders, First Year Experience, Prospective Student Services, Student Housing (Axis, The Green, Wolverine Crossing, etc.), Youth Sports (Jr. Jazz, Bantam Basketball, Utah Youth Soccer, etc.), Elementary Schools (elementary school days, elementary school tickets, mascot visits, student-athlete visits, etc.), Corporate Partners, etc., as well as sitting on assigned committees around campus to be the voice and link of UVU Athletics. Responsible for collaborating regularly with sport administrators, coaches, and student-athletes to best understand their specific marketing needs and ensure expectations are managed.
- Responsible for overseeing the conception, production, and implementation of creative assets (design, photo, video, etc.) used for the execution of strategic and innovative marketing and communication campaigns for designated intercollegiate athletic sports and programs. Crafts strategies that clearly increase Revenue Generation / Ticket Sales, Fan Experience, Community Outreach, and Attendance.
- Provide leadership to part-time staff, part-time students, and interns to ensure game day / event marketing responsibilities are executed, including pre-game, in-game, and post-game activities. Leadership also includes the recruitment, supervision, management, and mentorship of employees.
- Evaluate marketing and communication efforts, seeking ways to improve performance and increase program effectiveness. Understands and develops strategies based on data modeling that forecasts budgets against achieving acquisition goals, including CPM, CPE, CPI, customer acquisition costs, and the ability to assess attribution and value of each channel / tactic utilized. Creates and distributes client and executive reports that outline campaign and program objectives, audiences, targets, and tactics, including end-of-campaign and end-of-year actuals against targets.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree, plus one year of marketing experience OR a combination of relevant education and experience totaling five years.
- Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in sports management, sports marketing, marketing, or a related field and three years of experience in sports marketing or marketing OR any combination of higher education and related work experience totaling 6 years.
- Graphic design and video editing skills preferred.
- Experience working in collegiate athletics preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of UVU policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of the regulations governing intercollegiate athletics as set forth by the NCAA, the WAC, and the BIG 12.
- Knowledge of NCAA DI technical writing procedures.
- Knowledge of current marketing and promotional strategies.
- Knowledge of video and photo production techniques.
- Knowledge of how to operate and maintain all gameday production equipment.
- Skills in developing marketing materials used for promotion, advertising, fund raising, etc.
- Skills in judgement and diplomacy required to interact effectively with and provide customer service to a broad audience.
- Must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite software (i.e., Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, Lightroom, InDesign, etc.).
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite software (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Proficient in camera, lighting, sound, and editing techniques.
- Ability to uphold and abide by all NCAA, WAC, and BIG 12 regulations and UVU Institutional policies and procedures.
- Ability to develop annual and multi-year marketing plans for all intercollegiate athletic sport programs sponsored by the University.
- Ability to create and implement marketing and promotional strategies to help increase attendance and revenue for UVU
- Athletics, as well as enhance the fan experience and gameday atmosphere.
- Ability to supervise and direct marketing and promotional strategies for all intercollegiate athletic sport programs sponsored by the University.
- Ability to manage a set budget as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing.
- Ability to recruit, train, and supervise staff employees associated with the Athletic Marketing team.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with various campus and community constituencies.
- Ability to work with people in public relation settings.
- Ability to plan, organize, and problem-solve.
- Ability to interact and communicate with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, and meet deadlines.
