St. Catherine University invites applications full-time Writing and Multilingual Specialist position within the Tutoring & Learning Center
This position provides expertise on writing support and multilingual pedagogy, offering specialized training and ongoing professional development for peer tutors of writing and reading. In addition, the Writing and Multilingual Specialist provides direct support to multilingual students and serves as a resource for the university on best practices for providing academic support in writing and reading for a diverse student body. This position manages the writing intensive program, ensuring that writing development occurs and is integrated across the curriculum in appropriate ways depending on degree level.
Responsibilities Include:Peer Tutor Training and Professional Development
- Develop and deliver in-person and online training and professional development for peer tutors, including materials specific to supporting multilingual writers.
- Conduct tutorial observations and end-of-semester tutor evaluations, mentoring tutors as they develop their skills.
- Collaborate with Tutoring & Learning Staff to hire tutors and create tutoring schedules.
- With peer tutors, promote writing and reading support through class visits and other forms of outreach.
- Respond to questions and concerns about student writing and reading from faculty and receive student referrals from faculty.
- Provide one-on-one tutoring to multilingual students in all three colleges focused on English writing and reading skills in the context of course assignments.
- Maintain records of tutoring sessions and track students' progress; assess impact of multilingual support program on student retention.
- Work with the admissions teams of all three colleges to assess support needs of incoming multilingual students
- Manage the writing intensive program, ensuring that writing development occurs and is integrated across the curriculum in appropriate ways depending on degree level.
- In collaboration with Director of the Teaching Hub, provide faculty development in writing and reading pedagogy to support best practices in writing instruction.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or similar degree required
- Three years experience working in higher education in a faculty or academic support role. Understanding of tutoring philosophies and approaches.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Received or currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or similar degree.

Compensation:
The salary for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
