Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Total Rewards, the Benefits Analyst plays a vital role in the analysis, operations, and compliance of all employee, faculty, and retiree benefit programs at the college. This position ensures timely and accurate processing of benefits transactions, provides expert-level customer service, and supports strategic benefit initiatives in alignment with institutional goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Benefits Administration & Compliance: Demonstrates knowledge of benefits-related federal/state regulations, College of DuPage policies/procedures/Guidebooks/Collective Bargaining Agreements and takes actions necessary to remain compliant.
  • Process employee and faculty benefit elections including medical, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts (FSA), optional life insurance, and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D).
  • Maintain and update benefits coverage in Colleague and on provider websites, including for terminations and qualified status changes (e.g., marriage, birth).
  • Manage manual benefit enrollments, updates, and deduction setups or changes in coordination with payroll to ensure accurate implementation within pay cycles.
  • Maintain accurate and organized benefits files and documentation for audit and compliance purposes. Provides statistical reporting and detailed analysis to the Director as requested.
  • Ensure Plan Documents and Summary Plan Descriptions are current and comply with all statutory requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor monthly eligibility and financial transactions to identify and resolve data errors across benefit plans.
  • Retiree & Leave Benefits Support (Family and Medical Leave Act and American with Disability Act).
  • Serve as a point of contact for retiree benefit inquiries, including changes to medical plan reimbursement processes; counsel retirees and determine appropriate courses of action within policy guidelines.
  • Process retiree medical reimbursements, maintain retiree and prospective retiree databases, and handle requests related to retirement, including conducting information sessions for prospective retirees.
  • Track and manage benefits billing for employees on leave of absence or disability; process life insurance and disability claims, including those involving SURS.
  • Employee Communication & Support
  • Act as the primary contact for benefits-related questions; provide timely, accurate, and courteous support to employees and retirees.
  • Address coverage appeal issues and coordinate resolutions with employees and benefit vendors..
  • Conduct new hire benefits orientations and participate in other employee education efforts related to benefits.
  • Assist with benefits inquiries, complaints, and escalations, ensuring a positive employee experience.
  • Benefits Programs & Projects
  • Coordinate and support the annual open enrollment process, including preparation of communications, testing of online enrollment systems, and implementation support in collaboration with the Benefits team.
  • Project-manage key HR events such as the annual Benefits Fair, including timeline planning and vendor coordination.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of benefit offerings and internal processes through regular analysis and reporting; recommend and implement improvements.
  • Collaborate with vendors, brokers, and other external partners to resolve issues, communicate changes, and enhance services.
  • Attend the College Insurance Advisory Committee.
  • Other related duties as assigned


  • Qualifications:

    • Education
      • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred. Related experience can be substituted for educational requirement.
      • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) Certification preferred not required..
    • Experience
      • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in benefits administration or HR.
      • Experience in a post-secondary education preferred.
      • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
      • Experience working with diverse employee populations.


    Working Conditions:

  • Computer, scanner, copier, telephone, calculator, fax and Datatel (Ellucian) HRIS system.
  • General office environment.
  • This position requires a background check and drug screen.

    Hiring Range:
    10 Salary/Starting salary beginning at $60,064, based on experience.

    Competitive starting pay is dependent on education and experience.
