Salary/Pay Range: $41,139 - $53,083 annually. Compensation will be commensurate upon experience and qualifications. This position is exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.
Work Location: On-Site.

Summary
This position exists to prepare laboratories for classes and to take labs down after class; to calculate and chemically prepare reagents, maintain and prepare biological samples and organisms, estimate quantities of reagents needed, label all reagents and put hazard information on reagents according to National Fire Protection Association ratings, and arrange the laboratory so that reagents and/or equipment can be utilized with maximum efficiency. This position also provides IT support to the teaching labs, research labs and offices of the biology department.
Essential Functions
The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Laboratory preparation.
- Calculate, record, and chemically prepare reagents required in the various biology laboratories.
- Set up the laboratory for each laboratory experiment and each laboratory period.
- Review experiments to be used in labs, calculate amounts of reagents, types of equipment, glassware, and/or specimens or cultures required.
- Gather and check for proper functioning of equipment that will be used in a future lab, and repair or replace if necessary.
- Attach labels to all reagents with proper chemical formulas and hazardous properties and collect all hazardous waste for disposal. Directs inquiries to appropriate offices and facilities.
- Assign work study students duties, such as restocking supplies, laboratory clean-up, and glassware clean-up.
- Inventory of preserved specimens for the Biology Department.
- Maintain and build living and preserved specimen collections for teaching labs and the Biology Department.
- Chemically reduce, and/or consolidate like hazardous chemicals, attach tags to bottles containing waste, listing percent composition and hazard groups for disposal by Public Safety.
- Perform new experiments for possible use in future laboratories and recommend changes in experimental procedure and/or elimination of a particular experiment entirely.
- Provide IT support to the teaching labs, research labs and offices of the biology department.
- Maintain laboratories and laboratory prep areas in a clean and organized fashion.
- Purchase supplies and specimens for laboratory sections in a timely manner, and communicate delays as soon as they become apparent.
- Be readily available and in person when lab sections are being taught.
- Collaborates with instructors to source new lab materials to meet learning objectives and enhanced existing experiments for teaching labs.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in biology, health, or exercise science, or related field from an accredited institution is required.
- At least one year of experience providing support for teaching laboratory courses is required.
