The ASL, ESL & Linguistics department of the Long Beach Community College District is seeking highly-qualified individuals to be our ESL Services Specialist! These incumbents will be performing responsible and varied duties to coordinate ESL screening and guided placement duties and to ensure appropriate course placement of ESL students based on their English proficiency level. We are looking for someone who ensures that ESL students are provided with information and support to successfully matriculate and navigate access to applicable District services and programs. AT-A-GLANCE POSITION INFORMATION
- Type of position: Full time (40 hours/week)
- Position Status: Permanent
- Schedule: Typically, Monday-Thursday 10-7pm; Fridays 8-5pm
- Location: Primarily located at either the Trades, Technology, and Community Learning Campus (TTC) may need to support the Liberal Art Campus (LAC)
- Salary: Range 28, $4,894.54 - $6,018.56/Monthly
- Eligibility list: Will be valid for 12 months once approved or ratified by the Personnel Commission. We reserve the right to use the established eligibility list for vacancies (permanent and temporary) in this classification as well as related classifications.

Duties
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, coordinates, conducts and monitors student screening, guided placement, orientation and registration activities provided by the ESL office; ensures that prospective/incoming/current ESL students receive accurate and thorough program information, support and service; oversees the ESL office's day-to-day administrative operations and activities; and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
ESL Services Specialist is responsible for performing responsible and varied duties to coordinate ESL screening and placement administration/duties and to ensure appropriate course placement of ESL students based on their English proficiency level. Incumbents also participate in ensuring that ESL students are provided with information and support to successfully matriculate and navigate access to applicable District services and programs. Incumbents coordinate and carry out assigned duties at a District ESL office during daytime or evening hours. Assigned work requires a detailed understanding of the District's ESL program and guided placement administration, as well as admission, financial aid and other student- matriculation/support services functions, operations, policies, practices and procedures.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
Education, Training and Experience:
Associate's degree in education, counseling, communications or a related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience working with ESL college-age or adult students or administering an office in an organized, educational environment experience; or a Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, communications or a related field and one (1) year of progressively responsible experience working with ESL college-age or adult students or administering an office in an organized, educational environment experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
May require a valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.
This position requires bilingual skills in both English and Spanish. The incumbent must be able to read, write, and speak in Spanish and English.
Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.

Selection Process:
The following examination segments are pass/fail and may be utilized during the selection process:
