Job Summary

The Natural History Museum of Utah (NHMU) is hiring a dynamic administrative professional with a strategic vision to serve as the manager of our Recruitment, Onboarding, and Retention team. This exciting opportunity to lead NHMU's human resources unit is a chance to work at one of the most interesting workplaces around, where fascinating scientific research takes place and is shared with the public.
One of NHMU's five key strategic goals is "Invest in Our Team". The Manager of Recruitment, Onboarding, and Retention is a key champion of the efforts necessary to achieve this goal. NHMU is at the outset of a multi-year project with a leading consulting firm, on what has been dubbed our "Best Place to Work" initiative. The successful candidate in this position will serve as the project manager. In addition to managing this project, the successful candidate will also be responsible for coordinating NHMU's internship program and will manage the work of a group of employees whose responsibilities include recruiting, onboarding, and training all of the paid and volunteer staff who make the work of the Museum happen every day. In addition, the successful candidate will have opportunities to serve on various committees and working groups, and to interact with a wide array of skilled professionals both at NHMU and in other areas of the University of Utah.

Responsibilities
Manage the Best Place To Work initiative, including being the main point of contact with our consulting firm, and chairing the Steering Committees. Manage NHMU's transition to UCareer, working with NHMU's Director of Administration, University of Utah Human Resources, and NHMU Managers to assure that staff are properly placed, and the program is properly communicated to NHMU staff and managers. Mentor NHMU's managers and supervisors, assuring that they are trained and supported to contribute to NHMU being an exceptional workplace, and are regularly evaluating their staff and keeping current on all required trainings. Manage the work of an employee charged with recruiting and onboarding efforts, assuring compliance with UU policy and procedure, providing great service to NHMU supervisors and staff. Manage the work of an employee charged with updating our training program and transitioning to asynchronous online orientation and training. Pursue a long term strategy for staff training and professional development consistent with being one of the best places to work. Manage the work of an employee charged with recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and recognition efforts for Museum volunteers. Engage in strategic level discussions about how to best recruit new volunteers, utilize existing volunteers, and how to make sure those volunteers feel fulfilled and valued in their roles. Serve as liaison and primary ombuds to University provided benefits, services, and opportunities. Participate in Museum- and Campus-wide committees, working groups, and task forces.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department's area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required.

Master's degree in a related area may be preferred.

Work Schedule Summary: Generally Monday through Friday 9 AM - 5 PM, evenings or weekends may occasionally be required. This position is eligible for a hybrid in-office/work-from-home schedule, but the majority of your work time will be in-office.
