Position Announcement
The Employee Relations Partner consults, recommends, influences, coaches, trains, and delivers performance development and employee relations activities and services in compliance with university guidelines, procedures, policies, and applicable law. Serves as the initial point of contact for employee relations and advises both employees and management regarding employee relations practices, policies, procedures, and processes. Supports and, when appropriate, leads the coordination and facilitation of employee relations activities. Researches, analyzes, documents, and resolves employee relations questions, concerns, and complaints.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Supports leaders with performance development activities such as recognition, performance coaching, conflict resolution, performance improvement plans, and change management. Escalates complex matters as appropriate. Provides guidance under supervision on corrective actions, separation of employment, and other interventions. Assist with authoring, ensure legal review, finalization, delivery, and archiving of any associated formal documentation, letters, and memos, as needed. Effectively use and document all activities thoroughly and timely in the Case Management system.
- Receive, investigate, and resolve reports and complaints alleging behavioral misconduct, unfair treatment, policy violations, or unlawful activities. - Plans, executes, manages, and trains others on the formal performance management system and processes, including goal setting, supervisor review, mid-year check-in, and the annual review.
- Assists with planning, execution, reporting, and delivery of the probationary review process.
- Consults with Sr Director, Sr team members, General Counsel, and other university partners as appropriate on complex issues to minimize risk and ensure compliance with policy and applicable laws.
- Perform and assist with other generalist duties related to training, tools, templates, processes, reports, policies, reference materials, or other projects. Participates in cross-functional project work across People and Culture and other university departments as needed.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree plus three to five years of related experience, including two years of supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling at least seven years.
Preferred Qualifications
Qualified in Mediation or Conflict Resolution.

- Knowledge of employee relations such as performance and/or conduct based actions.
- Knowledge of HR/personnel practices and related laws/regulations.
- Knowledge of investigative and analytical techniques, procedures, and requirements.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution/mediation practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent planning, time management, communication, decision making, presentation, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Interviewing and mediation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Ability to utilize critical thinking and exercise sound judgment related to complex employee matters.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to research, interpret, and provide analysis of policies and related laws/regulations.
- Ability to consistently make sound operational and business decisions and influence positive outcomes.
