Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $30.56 to $33.74/hour. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $30.56 to $53.45/hour.

Working Days and Hours: M-F, 8am - 5pm Pacific Time or similar schedule during core hours

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Reporting to the lead Instructional Designer at UCEAP, this role supports study abroad related instructional design and staff training efforts. The Associate Instructional Designer will utilize educational technologies to create, edit, test, and deliver learning content and adapt emerging pedagogical strategies to current and ongoing projects of moderate scope. This role will co-lead committees or projects and will serve as a liaison with the greater campus and UC community to ensure learner-centered, authentic, interactive online learning activities that align with UCEAP and industry best practices. Requires independent work and collaboration within cross-functional teams to facilitate high-impact projects and programs aligned with UCEAP's Vision, Mission, and Strategic Goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Two or more years of work experience in instructional design, online education, faculty support, consultation, or related fields; or equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
- Working knowledge of instructional design principles, processes and learning theories including needs analysis, backwards design, adult learning theory, outcomes and assessments design, and instructional approaches such as f2f, hybrid, microlearning, lecture, and other activities.
- Working knowledge of technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, including but not limited to Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Camtasia.
- Technical aptitude and open-mindedness to learn to use new software and hardware tools and platforms as needed to deliver efficient and engaging online content.
- Ability to adhere to organization branding, policies, and procedures impacting online course development.
- Thorough understanding of workload prioritization and how projects may impact work being done on other courses or within other organizational teams.
- Proficiency in analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration and negotiation skills.
- Working knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
- Working knowledge of adult learning theories and education methodologies.
- Working knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.)
- Proficiency in planning, resourcing and monitoring effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the higher education and/or international education industries.
- Previous experience with graphic design and/or page layout.
- Proficiency using Adobe Creative Cloud software to edit video and audio.
- Working knowledge of Learning Management Systems.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies in relation to eLearning projects.
- Certifications and/or coursework in eLearning technologies and methodologies.
Special Conditions of Employment:
- The UCEAP Systemwide Office is located in Goleta, CA (near the UCSB campus). Type of work arrangement eligibility: Hybrid. On-site presence will be required for leadership and staff meetings, delegation visits, training sessions, etc. The University is unable to pay or reimburse expenses prohibited by University policy, including travel expenses associated with commuting to the designated office.

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
30% Media and Learning Content Creation, Editing and Accessibility - With guidance from the lead Instructional Designer, design, author, and revise learning assets in a variety of accessible formats including but not limited to print, interactive documents, vector and raster graphics, audio, video, animation, and authored online eLearning modules. Complete testing of content and tools to meet ADA requirements in accordance with defined standards. Leverage organizationally approved AI tools for content creation using best practices.
30% Course Design and Delivery - Assist senior staff in determining methods for course content delivery utilizing technology to promote engagement and knowledge retention. Apply intermediate instructional design skills to help articulate course design, learning outcomes, activities and assessments. Collaborate with colleagues to prioritize work assignments, conduct analyses, and develop recommendations. Select appropriate technologies and tools to achieve project-based and organizational goals. Work with experienced professionals to learn and contribute to projects, processes, and analyses of instructional content within the organization.
20% Technical Support and Monitoring - Deploy and refresh content on learning management platforms, monitor LMS activity, and generate learner engagement reports in accordance with established procedures and schedules. Assist students and staff with basic learning-related technical issues as needed. Develop and refine online content and resources (i.e. user guides, admin dashboards, best practice guides, training videos and tutorials).
10% Research and Outreach - Participate in conferences and industry opportunities to stay current in learning topics, technologies, models, and best practices. Attend and facilitate meetings, committees and participate in presentations related to current projects and initiatives. Partner with UCEAP staff to present and promote organizational learning innovations at conferences and peer institutions.
10% Other Duties and Special Projects - Work under general supervision and receive general instructions on on-going course and project development work, with detailed instructions provided on special projects and new initiatives. Other duties as assigned.
