Job Description Summary
Independently write and create web content, social media, student stories, multimedia features and event coverage. Manage the organization and presentation of existing web content for a new web presence. Work with Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics (LAIC) team on assigned content creation as needed.

Job Description

A premier communication policy center, The Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania (APPC) was founded in 1993. By conducting and disseminating research, staging conferences and hosting policy discussions, its scholars have addressed the role of communication in politics, science, adolescent behavior, child development, health care, suicide prevention, civics, and mental health, among other important areas. The center's researchers have drafted materials that have helped policy makers, journalists, scholars, constituent groups and the general public better understand the role that media play in their lives and the life of the nation.

APPC's Leonore Annenberg Institute for Civics (LAIC) focuses on educating students throughout the country in the processes of government and the responsibilities of citizenship, on training teachers to engage students in active learning for this purpose, and on sustaining these efforts with new resources and strategic partnerships. Through Annenberg Classroom and the Civics Renewal Network, which it organized and manages, LAIC has developed award-winning materials to help educators and schools do a better job of teaching youth about citizen rights, civic responsibility, democracy and the Constitution.

Job Responsibilities
  • Work with multiple stakeholders to manage and organize existing web content for the development of a new web presence
  • Write content across a variety of communication channels and vehicles that reflect, support, and amplify the LAIC and CRN's shared missions
  • Participate in discussions to identify and execute most effective ways to articulate strategic messaging
  • Revise, edit, and proofread print and electronic content
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science and 2 to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Superb writing and proofreading skills with a strong attention to detail are required
  • Must have an excellent command of language, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • A demonstrated ability to write effectively on a variety of topics
  • Strong research and organizational skills required
  • Experience writing in a higher education or non-profit setting a plus
  • Experience using a CMS, such as WordPress or Drupal, and a variety of social media platforms is required
  • Must be able to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Must be fully proficient in the MS Suite.


This is a one-year term limit position with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
