Job Summary:
The Assistant Director for Student Accounts assists in the day to day operations of Student Accounts and assures compliance with all federal and state regulations for the collections of student account and loan receivables; supervises special & third party billing and in-house collections; serves as USF's primary contact with third-party servicers; provides in-depth customer service to students and parents; provides payment and account information and problem-solving assistance to students, parents and staff colleagues.

Job Responsibilities
  • Reviews the application of student payment, refund, cancellation and other account policies and procedures
  • Manages the Perkins, Nursing, Nurse Faculty and Institutional loan portfolio process which include communicating with borrowers regarding promissory notes, separation and collections
  • Supervises the response to and resolution of requests and inquiries from students, parents, faculty and staff in regard to student accounts
  • Monitors compliance with all state and federal regulations related to student aid programs and compliance with the University's fiscal policies and procedures
  • Assist with 1098-T and semester tuition rules testing and implementation
  • NSLDS primary contact for Perkins issues and Disability processing
  • Manages the University's due diligence collections process for enrolled students with delinquent accounts
  • Serves as primary liaison with third-party servicers to ensure the performance of due diligence for all institutional loan programs
  • Evaluate third-party servicer performance and recommend retention or transfer of accounts to alternate vendor
  • Distribution and maintenance of reports from third-party billing servicer; performs skip tracing and notification of zero balance as appropriate
  • Assign delinquent accounts to outside collection agencies as appropriate. Monitor collection agency activity and recall accounts when appropriate.
  • Review Financial Arrangement forms and approves or denies request for benefits or alternative monthly repayment plan
  • Certification of LVCs on the US Department of Education TIVAS
  • Provides in-depth customer service to students and parents, providing payment and account information, deferment/cancellation information and instructions on using third-party servicer online tools
  • Participates and spearheads Student Accounts collection efforts for current account receivables
  • Assist with the creation, maintenance and updating of training materials and support documentation for Student Accounts
  • Monitors and evaluates procedures to ensure compliance under federal regulations with respect to security, privacy and fair credit reporting
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with internal colleagues and external vendors
  • Works under minimal supervision
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in a field related to the job, plus three (3) years related experience (i.e. collections/customer service) is required
  • Experience in higher education environment is preferred
  • Degree in accounting or business-related field is preferred. Experience may substitute for education up to four (4) years
  • Experience in collections and demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgement in complex financial transactions is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment
    Possess solid general computer skills, including ability to work in a Windows environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Internet, and other programs as needed (e.g., mail merge, data base management). Familiarity with specific applications used by the University/Department a plus (Banner, UAS Northstar, Tableau, Transact)
  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents
  • Demonstrated ability to handle complex and multiple tasks in a professional and efficient manner. Ability to manage complex projects with minimal supervision
  • Cultural competency to work with diverse student and employee population
    Exhibits a high level of professionalism, leadership, creative problem solving, diplomacy, negotiation and skills, and the Ability to work some evenings and weekends

Salary Range :
$70,000 - 77,420 annualized; commensurate with experience
