Bucknell University Department of Chemical Engineering is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate. This three-year, benefits-eligible, staff position is supported by the National Science Foundation funded project, CAREER: It's Not Sorcery, It's Skill: Shedding Light on How Professional and Personal Experiences Shape the Use of Intuition in Engineering Practice (EEC-2441887). This project has two main aims: (1) to characterize the ways in which engineering practitioners understand experience to influence intuition development and use, and (2) to characterize the perception of intuition and its role in engineering practice held by engineering faculty and industry recruiters. The postdoctoral research associate will work directly with the project PI to pursue these aims through a qualitative research design that employs phenomenographic, narrative analysis, and discourse analysis approaches. The associate will also work with the PI and undergraduate student researchers on artifacts related to the project's educational plan. All work will be performed in accordance with the University's research integrity policy and all other relevant policies.
The position will balance advancing research aims with the individual professional development of the postdoctoral research associate. The postdoctoral research associate will report to and be under the supervision of the grant Principal Investigator as well as the Chair of the Chemical Engineering Department (or their nominee) for the listed responsibilities, unless otherwise stated. The research associate will be expected to supervise and work with undergraduate student researchers alongside the PI.
Primary Responsibilities:
Research:
- Conduct individual and collaborative research in alignment with best practices, including high ethical standards
- Complete necessary administrative or management work associated with research
- Contribute to dissemination efforts, including leading a subset of efforts
Contribution to Research Group and University
- Engage in the wider research and scholarly activities of your research group
- Participate in internal and external networks for wide-reaching broader impact
Teaching, Learning, and Mentoring
- Supervise and provide day-to-day support, mentoring, and assistance to junior members of your research group (also part of research responsibilities)
- Participate in limited teaching opportunities or teaching-related professional development as appropriate for your own goals
Personal Development
- Engage in appropriate professional training and development opportunities to further transferable skills, career, and reputation

- Ph.D., (required), in Chemical Engineering (preferred)
- Skilled in educational research methods and qualitative research methods
- Skilled in mentoring undergraduates
- Excellent communication skills

Salary Range:
44,600.00-55,750.00
The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy.
This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
