This is a part-time, in-person position.

This position primarily performs its duties on the Indian Valley Campus and occasional travel to the Kentfield campus may be required, so if not already residing within the Bay Area, the successful candidate must be willing to relocate.

PURPOSE
The job of Instructional Specialist (Dental Assisting) is for the purpose of assisting in the development of students' dental assisting skills providing feedback to students and instructors regarding students' progress and supporting the instructors in providing record/materials and organizing the lab.
Essential Functions
- Assesses students' progress, for the purpose of providing feedback to the instructor
- Demonstrates skills required to perform lab activities for the purpose of supporting the needs of individual students
- Evaluates students' skills levels and learning styles for the purpose of providing support and mastery of skills
- Prepares assistive materials and supplies for the purpose of preparing for lab sessions
- Organizes and performs basic inventory tasks with the purpose of providing information when ordering supplies
- Creates and maintains basic lab documents such as quality control logs, MSDS, equipment instruction sheets for the purpose of providing a real lab environment
- Reviews course syllabi for the purpose of ensuring familiarity with assigned materials
- Reviews equipment manufacturer's manuals for the purpose of checking warranties and ensuring proper maintenance and operation
- Tutors students during lab hours for the purpose of improving their dental assisting skills and course material knowledge.
- Tutors students for the purpose of improving their studying techniques to achieve their academic goals
- Assists students in key boarding web based software (for dental assisting classes) for the purpose of guiding students to get familiar with the use of these tools.
- Develops and maintains inventory supply system.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements & Desirables
REQUIREMENTS
1.) An Associate's and/or Vocational School Degree with study in a job related area and job related experience; OR
2.) Any combination equivalent to two years' college-level coursework in specialized field; OR
3.) Any combination of education and training equivalent to two years' college-level coursework from an accredited institution in a related field and two years' responsible experience working in a laboratory setting. Additional years of job related experience may be considered experience in lieu of the education required on a year-for-year basis; AND
4.) Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students and staff.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION
RDA License with two years' dental assisting experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Desirable Attributes & Skills)
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic laboratory support activities
- OSHA safety and Blood Borne Pathogens Standards
- Concepts about dental assistant administrative and clinical duties
- HIPAA regulations and knowledge on how to chart and enter information into the dental record
- Are required to perform simple technical tasks with a frequent need to upgrade skills due to changing job conditions
- Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard dental equipment, preparing and maintaining lab records, utilizing pertinent software applications, performing dental assisting skills dictated by their scope of practice such as chairside procedures assessment, manipulation of dental materials and sterilization techniques
- Use of new or additional equipment brought about by new technology shall be incorporated consistent with the level of responsibility and complexity of this job
- Use basic job related equipment and to schedule routine maintenance of equipment and regular sharps pick up
- Work with others under a variety of circumstances and to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups
- Communicate with persons of varied backgrounds, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines and schedules; and work in a detailed manner
Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:
- In accordance with Federal Law all employees must provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Criminal Justice/Fingerprint and Child Abuse Index Services clearances.
- California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.
- DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the MCCD requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency. WORKING CONDITIONS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job functions requires the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling. The job is performed under minimal temperature variation in a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40 % standing.

Employees in classifications represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA) Chapter 196 and are required to comply fully with the CSEA/Marin Community College District (MCCD) Collective Bargaining Agreement. General information regarding rights and responsibilities under the Agreement can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreements section of our Human Resources site. CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up to 8% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.

Salary Grade: CSEA 115
Starting Salary Range: $33.92 - $37.40 per hour (step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.

CSEA Full-time Employees:
Medical Insurance: The District offers six plan options through Kaiser and Blue Shield. Effective 10/01/2024, the District's contributions for medical insurance coverage are as follows:
- Employee-only: $1,600/month
- Employee plus one dependent: $2,300/month
- Employee plus two or more dependents: $2,800/month
Dental and Vision Insurance - Delta Dental and VSP vision plans for employee and dependents, with no cost to employees
**All employees working less than 12 months per year and/or less than full-time shall receive pro-rated vacation, sick leave, and holiday accruals.
Vacation Leave - 90 hours of accrual annually, with additional accrual after 3, 10, and 14 years of service.
Paid Holidays - 17 paid holidays annually, which includes a paid winter holiday break at the end of December.
Sick Leave - 7.5 hours per month, 90 hours per year
Retirement through CalPERS - MCCD contributes 27.05% of employee's creditable earnings to CalPERS on a monthly basis (2024/2025). Vested after five (5) years. Mandatory employee contribution for 2024/2025 is 7% - 8%, depending on original date of membership and prior membership status.
Life Insurance - $50,000, with the option to purchase additional voluntary life insurance for the Lesser of 5x base annual salary or $500,000
Additional Retirement Savings Plans - Employees are also eligible to participate in a voluntary, tax-advantaged 403(b) or 457(b) retirement savings plan.
