Salary Range:

This will be a part-time position for the 2025-2026 academic year. Salary range will be for the appropriate percentage time of a contract that can be tailored to a candidate's needs. A full-time courseload for this position is 9 courses. Designing an internship model and working to build internship sites and relationships will constitute 2/9's of a full-time load (or two "course equivalents"), and in addition the individual will teach three or more courses from those listed below. The proposed salary range will depend on the number of courses the individual is interested and able to teach, ranging between a five and seven courseload. The position is benefits eligible. The salary is based on a per course rate, which is $11,070 to $11,760, depending upon experience, and number of prior courses taught at the university level.

Purpose:

The Department of Education at Santa Clara University (SCU), a Jesuit Catholic institution, seeks to hire one or more Annual Lecturers to help build and lead our new MA in Social Impact Leadership, which will launch in the fall of 2026. This new MA builds on our existing Social Impact Leadership concentration in our EdD in Social Justice Leadership, and is designed to prepare and support the leadership development of early to mid-career professionals in a wide range of social impact organizations (including, but not limited to, non-profit organizations, philanthropy, entrepreneurs with a social mission, ESG professionals in corporate sectors). The program is a joint venture of the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, the Leavey School of Business, and the Miller Center for Global Impact. Curriculum in the program is centered on leadership formation, business fundamentals, and the cultivation of an entrepreneurial and innovation-centered mindset, with engagement with an extensive network of social impact leaders and mentors and a mentored internship / capstone experience where students complete a project with a social impact organization in our region.

This position will begin September 1, 2025 and will include a combination of teaching relevant courses to students in the EdD program while also engaging in course development and internship site development in anticipation of the launch of the degree in 2026. While this position is a fixed-term, one-year Annual Lecturer position, we anticipate renewal of the position pending sufficient enrollment in the program and satisfactory performance.

Qualifications and Responsibilities

We are seeking an individual with extensive leadership experience in one or more social impact organizations who is interested in teaching and supporting graduate students pursuing careers in fields that have a direct positive impact on society. The size of the candidate's appointment is flexible. The successful candidate(s) will be able to teach one or more of the courses below, provide leadership and guidance on the planning for the Fall 2026 launch of the program, and collaborate with the admissions team to support program enrollment. This individual will also work with the Dean, Associate Dean, and the Director of Educational Leadership, as well as the leadership in the Miller Center for Global Impact and the Leavey School of Business and the program's Advisory Group of regional social impact leaders to plan for the launch. The individual will also cultivate relationships with area organizations and faculty colleagues to develop the syllabus and site partners for the capstone / internship project. Finally, academic advising of relevant students is typically part of the Annual Lecturer contract.

Service Responsibilities constitute approximately 5% of the lecturer's time, and will include attending faculty and program meetings as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned Master's degree or higher in a related field from an accredited university
  • Extensive successful leadership experience in one or more social impact organizations
  • Experience working and leading in diverse community environments with a commitment to social justice


Desired Qualifications
  • Teaching experience in higher education, teaching experience with graduate students preferred.
  • Experience and contacts with social impact organizations in the greater Silicon Valley region to support the cultivation of internship sites for students
  • Ability to teach a subset of the following 10-week courses; three or more courses combined with the curriculum development for the internship would be required for this to be a salaried position:

  • EDUC 359a Engaging and Understanding Community to Define Social Impact Problems and Strategy
  • Additional time will be compensated for curriculum development related to planning internship experience course sequence for forthcoming Social Impact Masters
