Compliance Specialist
Job Summary
The position assists with ensuring compliance related to the NIH Public Access Policy for the U of U. The position will also address emerging regulatory issues related to conflict of interest, conflict of commitment, reproducibility, and research security.
Responsibilities
This position will be responsible for the following activities:
- Draft a process for UU research teams to use as they submit their manuscripts from NIH-funded research to the National Library of Medicine's PubMed Central
- Keep current with the NIH requirements and determine how to meet similar requirements for other federal agencies as they become available
- Work with Marriott and Eccles Health Science librarians to ensure that the requirements are being meet
- Liaise with the Office of Sponsored Projects, Resource for Genetic and Epidemiologic Research, and Conflict of Interest Office to ensure that appropriate links are available on the BRR, eProposal, and eAward systems to promote compliance with this new federal policy
- Ensure that aspects of research security and regulatory compliance are defined and managed through the development and review of policies, procedures, and documentation
- Assist in the preparation of materials for internal and external audits or assessments
- Develop training opportunities and educate, through the Office of Research Education, research teams across the UU campus about federal requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience); plus 2 years working experience with one of those years working in a compliance office. American Health Information Management (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) recognized certification such as: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) or a specific certification preferred by the Department.
Basic knowledge of clinical documentation requirements related to regulatory and reimbursement rules, the Medicare system and proficiency with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel; demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
Experience with University of Utah computer systems such as: Powerchart, Allegra, IDX, IDXRAD, Corporate Radar, Cognos, EPIC and ORMIS are highly preferred.
This position is not responsible for providing patient care.
