Job Summary:
The Assistant Director for Student Engagement & Experience plays a central role in cultivating a vibrant, connected, and supportive undergraduate community within the School of Management. Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Operations and Student Engagement, this position leads co-curricular programming, digital engagement, student communications, and student relationship building. The role also supports indirect assessment for assurance of learning and contributes to the school's data and engagement infrastructure to promote student belonging, retention, and success.
This role is ideal for a tech-forward student affairs professional with strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and a passion for delivering high-impact student experiences. Familiarity with digital tools is highly desirable. Training and support will be provided to ensure the successful integration of emerging technologies in student engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Student Engagement & Leadership Development
- Plan, implement, and assess student engagement events including Orientation, McLaren (Dean's) Awards, club fairs, speaker series, and Advise-a-Thon.
- Manage and support student engagement initiatives and programs.
- Build inclusive and sustained relationships with SOM undergraduate students across class years and majors.
- Serve as liaison and mentor to School of Management clubs and student leadership groups; advise students on programming, budgeting, and event execution.
- Coordinate SOM participation in campus-wide student life initiatives and visibility events.
- Plan and manage events such as School of Management orientation activities, speaker and panel events, and community building events.
2. Communications, Social Media & Content Creation
- Develop, manage, and evolve student-facing communications across channels like newsletters (e.g., The Buzz), email campaigns, event invitations, digital signage, and registration videos.
- Curate and publish engaging content on SOM's Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok accounts to highlight student stories, events, and academic life.
- Support student-created content and club marketing efforts in alignment with brand and engagement strategy.
- Use tools like Canva, Google Suite, iMovie, and AI-assisted content platforms to create compelling visual and written content.
- May be asked to serve on School or University committees such as Orientation, Commencement, or other topic specific committees.
3. Data Infrastructure & Student Experience Tools
- Maintain and improve engagement and participation data tracking systems to monitor outreach, attendance, and student involvement.
- Partner with the Director and Associate Dean on tools to support indirect measures for Assurance of Learning (e.g., student reflections, surveys, co-curricular transcripts).
- Leverage technologies including Banner, Google Workspace, and AI tools to automate workflows and enhance outreach impact.
- Explore and adopt AI-enabled tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Notion AI, predictive analytics) for event planning, communication personalization, and data storytelling.
4. Student Services & Advising Support
- Provide backup advising during high-volume periods (start of term, registration) in coordination with the Director of Advising.
- Assist with resolution of student inquiries related to events, forms, student groups, and the SOM undergraduate experience.
- Maintain strong relationships with campus offices (SLE, CASA, OMC, ITS, Career Services Center, Graduation Center, Registrar's Office, etc.) to ensure a coordinated student support ecosystem.
- Produce and edit short videos to instruct incoming students on first semester course registration.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Communications, Educational Technology, or related field preferred.
- 3-5 years of professional experience working with students in higher education or related fields.
- Experience managing student events, clubs, and co-curricular programming.
- Strong written, visual, and digital communication skills.
- Proficiency or strong willingness to learn tools including Canva, Google Suite, iMovie, Slack, AI-based tools, and social media platforms.
- Comfortable working with data systems (Google Forms, Banner, Tableau, etc.).
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends during key student events.
Work Environment & Expectations:
- Primarily campus-based, with flexibility during summer and winter sessions.
- Occasional evening and weekend work required.
- Vacation blackouts apply during Orientation, advising weeks, and event preparation windows.
