What We're Looking For
Baylor Athletics is seeking a motivated, passionate, and service-oriented team player to become the Director of Spirit and Traditions. This leadership role oversees all aspects of the administration and operations of the Spirit and Traditions Program, including Songleaders, All-Girl Cheer, Co-Ed Cheer, and Mascot teams.
This position will be responsible for fostering an environment rooted in excellence in athletics, academics, and personal growth through diverse and inclusive experiences at Baylor University and the community. This role plays a key part in teaching and mentoring of students, recruitment, retention, and academic success of students in the Spirit and Traditions Program.
A bachelor's degree and two years of relevant work experience are required. A master's degree and four years of relevant work experience is preferred. This position supervises a team of three: two full-time staff members and one part-time employee. This position reports directly to the Associate AD for Marketing and Fan Experience.

What You Will Do
Program Oversight
- Lead the planning and execution of team practices, performances, competitions, tryouts, and appearances at athletic and university events.
- Develop annual team goals in alignment with Baylor Athletics' mission and the Spirit and Traditions program vision.
- Provide skill instruction with a background of teaching various areas of cheer or dance techniques.
- Work closely with the Baylor Athletics Medicine staff and the Campus CARE team to support student health and wellbeing.
- Maintain office hours in conjunction with practice schedules.
- Ensure all community outreach and appearances comply with university policies and support brand visibility and revenue opportunities.
- Travel with teams to athletic events including but not limited to football, basketball, volleyball and other university-related events.
Student Development and Recruitment
- Support students' academic responsibilities, guidance, and required study hours when necessary for the success of the student.
- Actively recruit high-character, academically strong, and athletically talented students in alignment with Baylor's mission.
- Foster a culture of leadership, accountability, and integrity within the Spirit and Traditions teams.
- Oversee fundraising efforts for the Spirit and Traditions program's operational budget and national appearance opportunities.
Collaboration and Leadership
- Cultivate a strong team culture within area of oversight and consistent collaboration with other areas of Athletics and the University.
- Serve as a key member of the Marketing and Fan Experience leadership team, ensuring consistent communication and collaboration.
- Contribute to talent acquisition and retention across areas of oversight.
- Act as a brand ambassador, ensuring the proper use of Baylor brand guidelines across uniforms, appearances, and marketing initiatives.
- Maintain working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA, Big 12 Conference, and institution rules and regulations and to communicate immediately any possible infractions of such rules and regulations to the Baylor Athletics Compliance staff.
- Oversee the Spirit and Traditions program's operating budget.
Other
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate AD for Marketing and Fan Experience.
- Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission.
