The Office of Information Technology encourages applications for an Academic Technology Professional (ATP)! This role is a key member of the Academic Technology and Student Success group in OIT. ATPs lead and participate in technology evaluations and pilots that leverage available and emerging tools to tackle sophisticated teaching and learning problems. In partnership with campus constituents, and in alignment with campus priorities, members of the Academic Technology Initiatives (ATI) group also conduct assessments where they collect, analyze, and share data to help advise strategic decisions. Additionally, ATPs participate in strategic and innovative academic technology and campus initiatives to advance student success and teaching at CU Boulder. They coordinate with campus groups on educational technology features, options, and limitations. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Academic Technology Initiatives
ATPs scope, design, implement, and report on technology evaluations, pilots, assessments, and other academic technology initiatives. They develop project charters and actively engage users and partners at various stages of the projects. As initiatives and projects proceed, ATPs report progress and bring up barriers as needed to the Program Manager of Academic Technology Initiatives, Consulting, and Training. ATPs serve as campus experts for educational technology trends and emerging technologies. They review and stay informed on the higher education technology landscape, and stay up-to-date on new features and functionalities in the existing portfolio of tools supported by Academic Technology.
- The types of initiatives included in the ATP portfolio are selected based on campus priorities and evolving faculty and student needs, and may include:
- Technology evaluations, in which technologies are evaluated for pedagogical uses, scalability, and support needs. When working on technology evaluations, ATPs meet with the vendors and attend demos, understand and test the functionality, do a comparison of technologies, and engage faculty and students in the evaluation process.
- Technology pilots, in which a new or evolving technology is being deployed and user experience needs to be assessed. When doing technology pilots, ATPs coordinate with users, engage partners, collaborate with service managers, assess technology & user experience, and make recommendations for adoption and implementation.
- Needs assessments, in which user needs are assessed and compared with current and emerging service offerings. When working on the assessments, ATPs collect, analyze, and share data, as well as make recommendations based on the data collected.
- The following processes, methodologies, and related skills are key to the Academic Technology Initiatives work ATPs do:
- Technology Expertise: ATPs often need to assess the technology landscape to identify relevant tools and gain hands-on understanding of the tools being evaluated or piloted.
- Data Gathering & Assessment: ATPs employ various assessment techniques to gather user input. This may include designing and deploying surveys and holding interviews or focus groups. ATPs may also work with campus partners to obtain and analyze relevant quantitative or qualitative data.
- Customer Engagement: OIT is a service organization and partner participation is important to successful initiatives. ATPs engage key partners within OIT and across campus at various stages of the projects. This may include organizing partner meetings, gathering input, coordinating with domain experts, and sharing decisions and findings with impacted customers.
- Evaluation & Recommendations: When data gathering is complete, ATPs analyze information and evaluate results based on the needs and experiences shared by users and partners. Based on project findings, ATPs make recommendations regarding adoption of technologies and way forward with services.
- Project Management: ATPs often use project management skills in their work. This includes:
- Coordinating with project members, setting timelines and meeting set timelines
- Identifying and communicating roles and responsibilities
- Serving as a primary communication point for initiatives
- Adjusting project timelines and scope
- Proactively handling project issues and/or risks
- Reporting on project progress
- Bringing projects to closure and sharing results
- ATPs build and maintain collaborative relationships with key partners on campus. The key partners include but are not limited to the Center for Teaching and Learning and Continuing Education. They also participate in committees, communities of practice, and other collaborative efforts and groups to represent the Digital Experience and Technology for Learner Success group.
- ATPs consult with campus groups, programs, departments and other customer organizations to identify and assess technology solutions to advance student success and teaching at CU Boulder. ATPs also coordinate with individual faculty on emerging technology needs and gaps in tool offerings.
- ATPs support faculty and students in adopting and effectively using technology through a range of training and outreach activities. They develop and deliver workshops, facilitate training sessions, host events, and create documents tailored to user needs. In alignment with emerging technology initiatives they are involved in, ATPs also help build awareness of relevant tools and services, ensuring the campus community advised informed and empowered to make the most of available technologies.
- ATPs share results of their work and significant findings on the OIT website, in campus publications and communications, and in conference presentations and white papers. Sharing the work that ATPs do supports OIT's work visibility efforts and benefits OIT, the campus, and nationwide academic technology community.
What You Should Know
- This position is in a hybrid work situation, working primarily remotely but certain projects will require on-campus work.
What We Can Offer
- The annual salary range is $72,930 - $82,055.

What We Require
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Three years of professionally relevant experience in a higher education or related setting which must include one year of experience coordinating with faculty or other academic partners on the use of teaching and learning technologies.
- Proficient in the use of academic technologies.
- Experience participating in or leading academic technology projects or initiatives.

- Ability to gather, analyze, and report on data.
- Ability to understand and represent the needs of the end user as well as business needs.
- Ability to work effectively and form relationships with campus leadership, IT professionals, and end users, including faculty, staff, and students.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Solid sense of initiative.
- Ability to effectively manage work and priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and multi-functionally with internal and external partners.
