Job Summary
The Department of Dermatology of the University of Utah's School of Medicine is looking for motivated candidates who are interested in academic medicine to enter the Advanced Practice Clinician Dermatology Fellowship. The fellowship is designed to provide the opportunity for comprehensive training in dermatology, to broaden and strengthen knowledge, and to help develop an analytical and systematic approach to diagnosing and caring for dermatology patients. Fellows will rotate in various general dermatology and sub-specialty clinics, and Rapid Access Dermatology Clinic. Our goal is to help build confident providers with effective communication skills who are capable of providing high-quality patient care.
This position is responsible for providing both specialty and sub-specialty care. This position may be required to access and administer medications within their scope of practice and according to state law.
This position is benefitted but is time-limited for one year. The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete a six month probationary period and potentially up to nine months. Throughout probation employment is "at will" and can be released for business reasons substantiated by the hiring department, subject to review and approval by University Human Resource Management.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Obtains focused medical histories and performs specialty appropriate physical examinations.
Identifies diagnoses and formulates an appropriate medical plan and prognosis.
Collaborates with physician(s) regarding complex patient medical plans and treatments.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests appropriately.
Performs selected invasive procedures for therapeutic and/or diagnostic reasons within scope of validated competence.
Initiates and/or recommends pharmacologic therapies or other forms of related therapeutic treatment and procedures in accordance with approved protocols/policy.
Complies with medical records policies regarding the complete and accurate documentation of patient care. Initiates and maintains required records and legal documents.
Participates in continuing medical education, including specialty and sub-specialty meetings, clubs, boards and conferences.
Counsels patients, families and significant others about health and illness, and promotes health maintenance.
Assists in the collection of data for research projects.
Problem Solving
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Current licensure to practice as a Physician's Assistant from the State of Utah.
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
Preferred:
- Certification in ACLS/BLS/NRP/ATLS may be required by your department or by privileging criteria.
This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
