STEM Education Intern

STEM Education Intern
Job Summary
This internship position is for all current students and recent graduates (2022 or later). The Natural History Museum of Utah has an initiative to train and mentor students in the museum field. NHMU provides paid internship opportunities that are an extension of the classroom to meet this goal. The Natural History Museum of Utah is a participant in the Informal Science Education Enhancement (iSEE) collaboration, which seeks to provide students with experiences not typically available in the classroom that will spark their natural curiosity and sense of wonder while practicing science skills. As part of this, the STEM Education Intern collaborates with a team of Museum staff and volunteers to facilitate the STEM Lab program, a drop-in space where K-12 field trip visitors can engage in open-ended, hands-on science, technology, engineering, or math activities. This internship has a strong focus in gaining facilitation and STEM education pedagogy experience. Additionally, the intern may be able to practice and grow their communication and project management skills through designing, iterating, and documenting activities for future STEM Lab programming. The intern might also be involved in other aspects of NHMU's field trip programs such as greeting, orienting, evaluating, and interacting with students and their chaperones. We also place a strong emphasis on providing an exceptional experience to every guest who visits the museum or participates in any of our programs. We believe that everyone at NHMU, at every level and in all departments, are a critical part of providing this level of experience. Therefore, all staff members receive ongoing training and are expected to consistently contribute to creating exceptional, memorable, and inclusive experiences for our guests, partners, and the community.
