Job Summary
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks to hire a Curriculum Developer within our Center for Education, Engagement and Evaluation (CEEE). The ideal candidate will have experience in designing data-rich middle and/or high school level science curriculum using research-backed pedagogy and brings experience designing and developing professional learning for educators. The ideal candidate has a teaching background, experience contributing to the evaluation of the efficacy of curriculum and learning outcomes, and experience creating and delivering educator professional development events. The ability to work in a team setting with distributed team members is essential to this role, as the successful candidate will work across multiple projects and with different team members.
The role will be filled as a full-time or part-time (75% FTE) position at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

CIRES Center for Education, Engagement and Evaluation (CEEE) is a team of 24 outreach, education, and evaluation professionals. We strive to make research data accessible, inspire environmental action, and empower curiosity and scientific engagement. We provide accessible, inclusive, high-quality environmental science curriculum and informal learning experiences, as well as meaningful professional and career development opportunities.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Curriculum Development (50%)
- For middle and high school students around Earth and Environmental Science topics using research-backed pedagogy like Ambitious Science Teaching and data sensemaking frameworks. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop engaging, data-driven units and lessons following curriculum design frameworks (e.g., Data Puzzles).
- Collaborate with CIRES scientists to translate cutting-edge research for learners and incorporate authentic scientific data into educational materials.
- Incorporate instructional strategies into curriculum design, develop assessment tools and grading rubrics.
- Design and deliver professional learning for educators.
- Design and lead a professional learning community of teachers.
- Support educators in the implementation of curriculum.
- Collaborate with research and evaluation team to collect classroom-level research data through surveys, observations, and video recordings.
- Coordinate and work with classroom teachers to collect data on instructional materials' use, including video, surveys, and student work.
- Attain CITI research certification in ethical conduct of research.
- Travel to classrooms in the Denver, Boulder, & Fort Collins areas.
- Present about project outcomes and research at conferences.
- Contribute to publications.
What You Should Know
- This position offers a hybrid work modality, requiring 3 days in office. Hybrid work arrangements will follow current CIRES and university guidance and policies.

- CIRES offers a generous compensation and benefits package.
- The annual hiring salary ranges for this position are Associate Scientist II Career Track: $57,570 - $71,963 and Associate Scientist III Career Track: $63,818 - $81,368. Salary is commensurate with education and experience and determined based on our CIRES internal career track classification.

What We Require
- Master's degree in education.
- At least 3 years of teaching experience in secondary classrooms.
- At least 3 years of experience developing curriculum based on research-backed pedagogic practices.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work within a team environment with a broad and geographically dispersed group of scientists and educators.
