About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

The Senior Associate A.D. for Brand Advancement and Strategic Communications will serve as the chief steward of the SMU Athletics brand story. The position will oversee all aspects of strategic communications, branding, social media and creative services for the athletics department. This position will also oversee MustangVision, the SMU Athletics broadcasting and video production department, reporting directly to the Deputy A.D./Chief Revenue Officer.

This role will drive brand engagement and visibility for the athletics department to support revenue growth across multiple streams. They will also provide creative storytelling to build the SMU athletics brand, promote sport programs and student-athletes and engage fans. In addition, they will develop and implement a comprehensive and integrated communications strategy that aligns with department-wide mission, goals and values.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee all communications areas including public relations and social media strategy. Serve as the liaison to University communication team. Serve as the chief storyteller for SMU Athletics. Lead gameday content strategy and distribution as well as various department and industry initiatives throughout the academic year.


  • Oversee the creative services department and brand standards for the department of athletics. Uphold the creative brand strategy by developing a creative strategy around team apparel and uniforms, video, website, social media and environmental graphics, etc. Create a comprehensive, innovative, and engaging content plan for the department and individual sport programs.


  • Oversee the MustangVision department and creative direction of the video production content for the department of athletics


  • Oversee the social media plan and strategy with an innovative and creative outlook on the management across all platforms. Collaborate weekly with other department communicators including digital marketing, fan experience, and Mustang Club to ensure external brand and messaging alignment.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree is required.

A minimum of seven years of work experience is required.

Previous experience working in a collegiate athletic department and/or professional sports organization is desired. Previous marketing, communications and brand management experience is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills. A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning, and time management skills. A strong focus on attention to detail is essential.
