Job Description:
The Manager, Community-Engaged Learning provides focused management of Swearer Center programs, co-curricular initiatives, community partnerships, and other campus initiatives related to community-engaged learning and campus-wide democratic engagement.
The role works to advance community change through five core Swearer Center pathways, with a focus on social innovation, organizing, activism, and advocacy. This position engages students in learning about democratic practices and habits of democracy, including social innovation towards sustainable change, dialogue across difference, community organizing, and direct practices such as participatory budgeting and voting.
The position is responsible for an assigned portfolio of programs, partner relationships and/or cohorts of students, which include, the Social Innovation Fellowship, Civic Engagement Fellows, and the Brown Votes Initiative. The manager designs, plans and implements community-engaged learning opportunities such as events, workshops and other strategic programming related to social innovation and campus-wide democratic engagement . The Manager plans and implements programming that builds community among cohorts of students, and provides one-on-one and group advising to fellows; conducts program evaluation and data tracking in collaboration with colleagues across the Center; and represents the Center at student-, faculty-, and community-facing events. The Manager is also responsible for representing and managing external partnerships with organizations focused on campus voter engagement.
The position may supervise 2-3 student staff and reports to an Associate Director or Director position.
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
- 3-5 years' relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Competencies
Required:
- Experience with undergraduate student advising and/or academic educational programs of study, including engaging, collaborating with, supporting, and educating undergraduate students;
- Strong skills in management, program structure and process, documentation and assessment.
- Collaborative work style, strong team player, inclusiveness and flexibility; ability to build collaborations with diverse communities.
- Proven track record in furthering university diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives while supporting students from historically underrepresented and/or minoritized backgrounds is required.
- Track record of execution and change orientation: open-mindedness; focus on learning, assessment, constant improvement, and accountability; attention to detail.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and multitasking skills. Ability to generate enthusiasm among students and practitioners in the field.
- Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
- Ability to work evening and weekend events/programs, including some holidays.
Desired:
- Experience managing social innovation and social entrepreneurship programs.
- Experience with university democratic or voter engagement programs and/or curricular and co-curricular civic engagement programs.
