The Division of Public Safety at the University of Colorado Boulder is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Professional Accountability! This role will lead and oversee all internal affairs, audits, inspections, and quality assurance functions. This role plays a critical part in shaping policy, ensuring compliance, and fostering a culture of integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement across the division.
The Director will also manage education and training initiatives to ensure all personnel operate at the highest standards of professionalism and effectiveness. This position actively participates in high-level decision-making and strategic planning for the Division and broader University initiatives.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Leadership & Collaboration:
- Meet regularly with departmental leaders to foster collaboration, resolve issues, and develop strategic improvements.
- Set division-wide goals and ensure successful execution through team leadership and follow-through.
- Engage with institutional partners to develop cross-functional strategies and problem-solving initiatives.
- Draft, propose, and implement policies and procedures ensuring consistency and compliance throughout the division.
- Provide guidance and direct performance improvement processes, including counseling and corrective actions as needed.
- Participate in high-level management meetings, providing input on initiatives impacting the Division and Office of the Chancellor.
- Manage and conduct sensitive internal investigations of Public Safety employee misconduct.
- Ensure due process, review case accuracy, and recommend final dispositions to the Vice Chancellor.
- Train supervisors on investigation procedures and handle inquiries and complaints.
- Oversee proactive monitoring and intervention processes to support employee development and address issues early.
- Partner with HR to ensure consistency and compliance with policies and disciplinary procedures.
- Lead audits and compliance monitoring across the Division, identifying risks and ensuring adherence to regulations and policies.
- Collaborate with University Legal Counsel and Clery Compliance Committee to prepare reports and address federal or administrative inquiries.
- Assess training needs and develop programs to maintain regulatory compliance and optimize employee performance.
- Maintain comprehensive training records and collaborate with internal and external training providers.
- Oversee annual inspections and audits to evaluate operational efficiency and asset management.
- Deliver timely, actionable reports to leadership to ensure departmental performance aligns with stated goals and objectives.
- Partner with General Counsel to ensure legal compliance in policy development and implementation.
- Coordinate with law enforcement and external agencies to maintain adherence to agreements and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with the mandatory reporting obligations for sexual misconduct and protected class discrimination and harassment. Partner with the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (OIEC), as appropriate.
What We Can Offer
Starting salary range is $110,000 - $122,000.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience can substitute year-for-year for degree.
- Minimum of 6 years of progressive law enforcement leadership experience at the command level (rank of Captain, Commander, or higher).
- Must have served as a commissioned police officer with demonstrated expertise in law enforcement operations, investigations, and professional standards.

- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills - Capable of assessing complex issues, interpreting data, and delivering sound recommendations.
- Communication & Collaboration - Effective communicator who can build partnerships across departments and engage with diverse partners.
- Decision-Making & Crisis Management - Demonstrated ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure in high-stakes situations.
- Change Management - Skilled in leading cultural and operational change initiatives within a public safety or law enforcement environment.
