Job Summary
The Department of Journalism in the College of Communication, Media, Design and Information (CMDI) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a tenure-track professor of journalism studies at the assistant rank.
The successful candidate will identify within the broad field of journalism studies, but specialize in, potentially, one of the following areas: media law and ethics; AI and journalism; local, community or rural journalism; new business models in journalism; political communication; broadcast journalism; or visual storytelling.
The successful candidate must be well-grounded in journalism studies and open to creative interchange with colleagues practicing a variety of qualitative, quantitative and practice-based methodologies while researching and teaching journalism and media through both a social science and humanistic approach. They should also have demonstrated commitment to inclusive pedagogies and the mentoring of a diverse range of undergraduate and graduate students. The department prefers candidates with undergraduate-level teaching experience in journalism skills or journalism studies courses. The position is 40% teaching, 40% research, and 20% service and involves teaching two classes per semester.
The position will begin in August of 2026.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Teach two journalism courses per semester
- Conduct research/creative work in the area of journalism studies
- Do service within the Department of Journalism, CMDI and the University as a whole

What We Can Offer
The annual salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.

PhD in Journalism or related field. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
