This position is eligible for a one-time non-base building sign-on bonus up to $2,000. Details of this recruitment incentive program will be provided during the interview process.
Job Summary:
This is an apprentice position which will receive training from, and work closely with, qualified PMT2 HVACR technicians, in order to become familiar with equipment, troubleshooting steps, and routine maintenance and repair procedures. Work will be completed with assistance when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Completes work requests for preventative maintenance and repairs to refrigeration systems, including walk-in 4 to 37C rooms, freezers, and process chillers. Inspects, replaces, adjusts, programs, and calibrates refrigeration controls and components. Installs, repairs, and replaces systems and components.
- Completes work requests for preventative maintenance and repairs to building and occupant owned HVAC systems and components. Systems include package, split, chillers, CRAC, AHU's, FCU's, RTU's, and exhaust fans.
- Recovers refrigerants using proper techniques and tools and while following all EPA regulations. Documents refrigerant use, recovery, and storage.
- Completes an apprentice qualification program through on the job training, job experience, and actively studying theory, processes, and procedures.
- Responds to emergency calls pertaining to HVAC and refrigeration problems, and emergencies throughout the campus. Assists in supporting various special events.
Work Location:
Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Two years of progressively responsible experience in the HVACR industries.
- CFC Universal Certification
Substitution:
- Successful completion of a formalized HVACR apprenticeship program, or higher level, non-correspondence course work in the same fields from an accredited vocational school or university may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but not for the CFC Universal Certification.
- If applicant does not currently possess a Universal (Type 1, 2, and 3), then applicant must agree to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
Colorado law requires that candidates for state government jobs be residents of Colorado at the time of application.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in refrigeration that includes inspecting, replacing, adjusting, and calibrating electronic and refrigeration controls and components.
- Experience mechanically and electrically troubleshooting HVACR equipment.
- Experience entering, updating, and modifying information in a database
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with customers, peers, and trade co-workers.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent oral communication skills with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
- Mechanical ability: able to learn how to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem, and be able to fix it.
- Physical ability that meets the physical requirements assessment for the position
- Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver's License.
- CFC Universal Certification

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as (minimum - 40th posting max) $4238 - $4916 per month ($50,856 - $58,992 per year).
This position is eligible for overtime compensation.
The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
If you have prior state-classified service in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.
