Description of Position:
The Biology Department at Contra Costa College is hiring part-time instructors to teach Nutrition (BioSc 160, 3 units). This is a lecture only class. We offer in-person as well as online sections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Provide classroom instruction in accordance with approved course outlines.
  2. Inform students concerning course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  3. Maintain necessary attendance, scholastic, and personnel records, and to submit them according to published guidelines
  4. Prepare and grade classroom assignments and examinations, and to inform students of their academic progress.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Adjunct Faculty duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. providing instruction in accordance with established curriculum, course outlines and class schedules;
2. creating and maintaining an environment which emphasizes learning, encourages free discussion of ideas and critical thinking;
3. evaluating progress of students concerning educational matters and grades student work;
4. meeting with students outside of class;
5. maintaining appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics;
6. maintaining current knowledge in the subject matter areas;
7. fulfilling professional responsibilities of a part-time/temporary faculty member;
8. maintaining accurate academic records;
9. performing other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience:
Understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.

EDUCATION:
Master's in any biological science OR Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science OR a Master's in Nutrition or Nutritional Science OR the equivalent*.
*If you believe that you meet the minimum qualifications via equivalency, please complete the Master's Degree Discipline Equivalency form in the application packet.

Desirable Qualifications:
Desirable Qualifications | Ideal candidates will possess extraordinary interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, a passion for teaching, and the ability to effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals.
  • Experience in teaching science classes at the community college level.
  • Experience with teaching using technology, including, but not limited to use of remote education platforms.
