The Section of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Boston University School of Medicine and Boston Medical Center (BMC) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to support its rapidly expanding department. Boston Medical Center is a 514-bed academic medical center, the primary teaching hospital for Boston University, and a nationally recognized safety-net hospital serving a diverse patient population from across New England.

The Section is an integral part of the BU-BMC Cancer Center, which provides the full spectrum of cancer care-including hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, stem cell transplantation, gene therapy and CAR-T therapy and a robust clinical trials program. Our APPs are vital members of the team, working in a collaborative model with physicians and other specialists to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to the city of Boston's diverse communities.

In this role, the APP is responsible for managing acute and chronic issues associated with hematology and oncology diagnoses and treatments, developing and implementing care plans, and providing patient and family education, anticipatory guidance, and psychosocial support. The APP has prescriptive authority in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including Schedule II-V controlled substances.

The position requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team. APPs at BMC participate in tumor boards, teaching conferences, and quality initiatives, and are encouraged to pursue ongoing educational opportunities. In addition, all APPs receive a faculty appointment at the Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient care for patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions in collaboration with supervising physicians.
  • Manage therapeutic regimens and supportive care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapies, stem cell transplantation and cellular therapies such as gene cell therapy and CAR-T therapy.
  • Deliver patient and family education, anticipatory guidance, and emotional support throughout the course of illness.
  • Prescribe and manage medications, including chemotherapy and supportive regimens, within scope of practice.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams including radiation oncology, surgical oncology, palliative care, and supportive services such as nutrition, genetics, social work, and patient navigation.
  • Participate in tumor boards, teaching conferences, and mentoring of NP and PA students.
  • Engage with the Cancer Center's active clinical trials program and contribute to research or quality improvement initiatives.

"BU conducts a background check on all final candidates for certain faculty and staff positions. The background check includes contacting the final candidate's current and previous employer(s) to ask whether, in the last seven years, there has been a substantiated finding of misconduct violating that employer's applicable sexual misconduct policies. To implement this process, the University requires a final candidate to complete and sign the form entitled "Authorization to Release Information" after execution of an offer letter."
