Job Summary
Kutztown University of Pennsylvania enrolls approximately 7,500 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs. Kutztown University invites applications for the position of Director for Clinical Education & Partnerships within the College of Education. The Director plays a vital leadership role in advancing the university's mission of excellence in educator preparation and community engagement. This position oversees the daily operations of the Office of Clinical Education and Partnerships (OCEP), ensuring effective coordination of student clinical placements, maintaining compliance with certification and clearance requirements, and fostering strong partnerships with PK-12 school districts and university stakeholders.
About the Role
Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education and Partnerships, the Director plays a critical leadership role in managing, coordinating, and enhancing all aspects of clinical education and field placements for teacher candidates. The Director supports students from admission to certification, maintains compliance with state and institutional requirements, and fosters partnerships that contribute to the success of all stakeholders in the P-20 continuum.
Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee all day-to-day operations of OCEP, ensuring high-quality support for teacher candidates, faculty, mentor teachers, and school leaders
- Manage candidate clearances, medical documentation, and placement eligibility in accordance with Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines
- Coordinate student teaching and clinical placements; forecast placement needs in collaboration with academic departments and school partners
- Design and facilitate professional learning for teacher candidates, mentor teachers, and university supervisors
- Support student and mentor teacher events, recruitment efforts, and career preparation through partnerships with university partners and PK-12 school entities
- Develop and maintain critical documentation, handbooks, guides, and correspondence related to clinical education
- Supervise student workers and maintain office budget, processing payroll and purchase orders
- Collect, organize, and report data for accreditation, program improvement, and partnership development
- Support conflict resolution and work directly with students and stakeholders when challenges arise in clinical experiences
- Build and sustain collaborative relationships across diverse roles including students, faculty, staff, school personnel, and community partners
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education or a related field
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a certified K-12 educator in the US
- Experience supervising or mentoring teacher candidates or new teachers
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Adobe, and related programs
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and communities
- Evidence of professionalism, continuous learning, and problem-solving in complex educational environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctoral degree in Education or a related field
- Active K-12 instructional certification or licensure (from state department of education within the US)
- Experience coordinating clinical experiences or field-based education programs
- Experience teaching in teacher preparation programs or in higher education
- Experience with coaching, mentoring, or leading professional learning for teachers
- Knowledge of PDE certification and clearance requirements
- Experience with data collection, analysis, and accreditation reporting (e.g., CAEP, AAQEP)
- Experience developing materials, systems, or policies for P-20 student success initiatives
- Experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams (faculty, staff, administrators, school leaders)
