The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for a Data Access and Information Specialist! The Data Access and Information Specialist is an integral member of the Data & Analytics Team within the Office of Information Technology. This role is responsible for implementing a planned approach to data requests and releases to serve the Data & Analytics Team and data units across CU Boulder. This work includes consulting and collaborating with technical and non-technical teams to continuously assess, enhance, and implement data request and release services for a variety of data requests. The Data Access and Information Specialist also works alongside the Data & Analytics Service Ticket process and the CU Boulder Data Governance Program.
The Data Access and Information Specialist will lead the implementation of the data request and release process and provide assistance in the roll out of associated standards and procedures that support data services, analytics, and data governance. The Data Access and Information Specialist will document to ensure standard practices are being communicated consistently across the organization, particularly as they relate to data access and data sharing. At a high-level, this position is responsible for understanding how the data environment functions, what data services are available, and how to quickly address incoming data requests. The position involves communicating with campus data stewards, partners, and functional units to ensure that policy, standards, and processes are followed throughout the data request and release process. This position is expected to function as the lead for data request and release services and will serve as a support for other Data & Analytics team members. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Service Management for Data Request and Release
- Lead the development and implementation of data request and release service roadmaps, to ensure effective, efficient, and continually improving delivery and support of services, including finding opportunities for new or enhanced offerings.
- Maintain accurate and user-friendly service documentation, including service communication routes, escalatory pathways, checklists, and workflow diagrams, regularly reviewing and updating materials to reflect current practices and information.
- Ensure data request and release services are designed and implemented to meet evolving campus and customer needs, aligning with CU Boulder's commitment to excellence and accessibility.
- Communicate proactively and broadly about data request and release services, their value to the campus community, and any planned changes or ongoing activities, fostering clarity and engagement.
- Assess and recommend upgrades or changes to data request and release platforms and tools based on the evolving needs of the university, in collaboration with the Data Governance Program Manager.
- Evaluate the ongoing value, effectiveness, and alignment of data request and release services with established objectives, business needs, and budget constraints.
- Determine any issues and resolve data request or release technical issues and ensure data transfers follow all necessary policies, standards, and procedures.
- Understand how the data request and release environment functions, what data services are available, and how to quickly connect requests with the appropriate unit.
- Connect with Data & Analytics staff, data stewards, data custodians, domain experts, and high-level data governance partners to ensure data requests are addressed in a timely manner and addressed appropriately for the data domain.
- Implement data governance standards and procedures, in collaboration with the Assistant Vice Chancellor of D&A and the Data Governance Program Manager, while following all policies, protocols, and federal regulations.
- Provide CU Boulder staff with access to data documentation, data definitions, data policies, and data governance standards and processes, where appropriate.
- Work alongside the Data Governance Program Manager to connect with high-level campus partners regarding changes to data governance standards and procedures.
- Collaborate and coordinate with Data & Analytics leadership and staff on service management strategies and implementation of procedures into existing data and analytic services.
- Actively solicit feedback from service partners to supervise and advise improvements and ensure services remain responsive to campus needs.
- Adhere to federal and state regulations, as well as CU Boulder's standards, policies, and procedures for data, information security, and ICT accessibility across all services.
- Ensure business continuity through robust planning, problem solving, and trouble-shooting, including maintaining service continuity plans to support critical operations during disruptions.
- Define and apply data and analytic service quality control processes and procedures.

What We Can Offer
- The salary range is $72,930 to $82,055 annually.

What We Require
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in IT service management, computer science, or related field. A combination of education and relevant experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
- 2+ years of experience that includes technical process implementation, compliance management, and/or data security, including technical tools, in addition to process documentation.
