Job Summary
Managing a portfolio of 75 to 100 high-net-worth individuals, they serve as a vital connector between Huntsman Cancer Institute's innovative work and the philanthropic community in Utah County. This role plays a critical part in expanding the institute's presence, influence, and impact throughout the region.
This individual reports to Huntsman Cancer Foundation's (HCF) Senior Advancement Director. They will collaborate closely with key leaders including HCF President & Chief Operating Officer, institutional leaders at HCI, and the University of Utah, as well as other internal leadership at HCF.
The Director of Development, Utah County Initiatives, is a driving force behind transformative philanthropy that fuels the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) mission to eradicate cancer. This is a high-impact role for a bold and strategic fundraiser driven to advance meaningful, mission-aligned outcomes.
They will lead efforts to engage, inspire, and secure major gifts, primarily in the six to eight-figure range, for our new Vineyard location. Work is already underway to develop the Mountain West's next Comprehensive Cancer Center located in Vineyard, Utah. This campus will create new possibilities for cancer research, prevention, and treatments in Utah County.

Donor Strategy & Relationship Management
Identify, qualify, cultivate, and solicit major gift prospects in Utah County in support of HCI's Utah County initiatives and the HCF capital campaign, securing gifts ranging from $100,000 to multi-million dollar commitments.
- Manage a dynamic portfolio of 75-100 major gift prospects and donors.
- Design and implement individualized solicitation strategies informed by donor interests, giving history, and philanthropic capacity.
- Provide stewardship and recognition that deepens donor engagement.
- Maintain accurate donor plans in Raisers Edge NXT.
- Represent HCI and HCF at donor meetings, events, and community gatherings.
Craft persuasive proposals, case statements and supporting materials tailored to major gift opportunities.
- Partner with colleagues to design and deliver high-impact donor cultivation and stewardship events in Utah County.
- Collaborate with Senior Director of Development, President and COO, and other internal stakeholders to align fundraising strategies with institutional priorities.
- Contribute to prospect strategy sessions and support data-informed, team-based approach to fundraising.
- Use donor data and philanthropic trends to refine strategy and improve outcomes across the portfolio.
- Develop and track key performance metrics.
- Generate reports on donor activity, revenue forecasting, and campaign progress to support decision-making transparency.
- Ensure accurate gift documentation and reconciliation.
- Oversee fundraising budget with fiscal responsibility and transparency.
- Uphold compliance with policies and ethical standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience (One year of education is equivalent to two years of experience).
- Six years of related experience.
Preferences
- 12+ years of fundraising experience, including 7+ years securing major gifts.
- Deep understanding of donor motivations, philanthropic psychology, and long-term relationship building.
- Skilled in managing a disciplined moves-management process to advance donor relationships from identification through solicitation and stewardship.
- Confident and experienced in soliciting and securing six and seven-figure gifts through face-to-face engagement.
- Proven ability to grow philanthropic presence in emerging or underdeveloped regions.
- Demonstrated professionalism to build and sustain trusted, collaborative relationships with donors and partners.
- Direct experience supporting or leading large, multi-year capital campaigns.
- Skilled in designing meaningful donor engagement experiences and events.
- Strategic mindset with strong execution and attention to detail.
- Proficient in CRM systems; experience with Raiser's Edge NXT preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver compelling messages that align institutional priorities with donor values.
- High emotional intelligence, with a leadership style rooted in humility, authenticity, and ethical integrity.
- Comfortable working across teams and supporting collaborative development goals.

Work Schedule Summary: Monday thru Friday - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with some nights and weekends occasionally. This position is will work remotely with the expectation of being in the foundations office one-two times per week.
