40 hours/week12 months/year
General Description:
Under general supervision, plans, performs and oversees groundskeeping activities; assists in the development and maintenance of District grounds; and carries out related duties as assigned
Examples of Duties
Representative Duties:
- Works with director in maintenance and development of District grounds
- Provides lead supervision in grounds development and maintenance functions
- Purchases and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment
- Issues supplies and equipment to grounds staff
- Instructs grounds employees in the performance of their duties to insure that proper methods are followed
- Designs, installs and maintains irrigation systems to include timers, mainlines, wiring, sprinklers and booster pumps
- Works with contractors on campus grounds
- Repairs chain link fencing
- Operates landscape construction equipment
- Works directly with grounds mechanic and Transportation Department for equipment repair
- Assists in providing safety training to subordinate staff
- Applies hazardous chemicals, such as herbicides, pesticides, and insecticides and is responsible for their security
- Prepares bill of material for assigned projects
- Assists in the preparation of athletic fields
- Provides new landscaping to newly developed areas
- Maintains records, timesheets, purchase orders and Cal OSHA regulations
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge of:
- Methods used in caring for plants, shrubs, flowers, trees and lawns
- Lawn planting and cutting procedures
- Safe work practices
- Irrigation methods
Ability to:
- Operate and maintain equipment
- Use gardening hand tools
- Lift up to 60 pounds
- Work under extreme heat and cold temperatures
- Work independently
- Train and oversee the work of others
- Work cooperatively with others
- Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues
Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma OR GED AND four (4) years applicable experience
OR - High school diploma AND three (3) years applicable experience AND applicable certifications
OR - Associate's degree AND at least one (1) year of applicable experience
OR - The equivalent education and experience.
License or Certificate:
Possess a valid California driver's license.
Desired Qualifications:
Possess or be eligible for a State of California Department of Food and Agriculture Certified Commercial Applicator license.
