Pathway Coach (Academic Counselor)-Advising & LifeMap - Bunker Hill Community College

Reporting to the Director of Advising & LifeMap, the Pathway Coach will use a student-centered philosophy, to help students stay engaged and on track to complete their academic program. In addition to assisting students with exploring career interests and the development of a Financial-Academic-Career (FAC) Plan, the Pathway Coach will track students' academic progress, and provide support at key junctures. The Pathway Coach will also participate in the facilitation of Steps to Success (STS) workshops and building student belonging through social networking and participation in BHCC Pathways related co-curricular events and activities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide a supportive and engaging environment for students.
- Collaborate across offices to ensure smooth transition and ongoing student support.
- Use a Developmental Advising Model to guide academic and career exploration within pathways.
- Administer and interpret assessments to connect students with appropriate Learning Communities.
- Use intrusive advising to help students create personalized financial, academic, and career (FAC) plans.
- Conduct proactive outreach and connect students to resources based on ongoing needs.
- Deliver holistic LifeMap advising for academic, career, and transfer support.
- Partner with faculty to integrate advising across the curriculum and facilitate classroom presentations.
- Serve as liaison for pathway faculty advisors and assist with training on advising and planning.
- Document advising interactions, track outcomes, and engage in departmental initiatives and professional development.
- Work on campus Wednesdays 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m., Thursdays 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., every other Friday, and one Saturday per month during Start Now/peak registration period.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology or a closely related field and three (3) years of experience and/or training involving advising, counseling and/or student recruitment and retention; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of student development concepts and principles.
- Experience utilizing coaching strategies with first-generation students
- Proficient user of student information or customer management systems.
- Proficient user of Microsoft applications: Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
- Excellent, demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Students attending BHCC come from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support they need to succeed. While not required, the ability to read, speak, and write in Spanish is preferred.
Additional Information:
Salary: $70,929.00 - $76,416.00 (Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.) Full State Benefits.
Grade: 5 Professional Staff position (Charlestown campus)
