The Director of Simulation co-leads the Institute of Simulation and Interprofessional Learning with the Director of Interprofessional Education to create and implement a multi-year strategic plan for the institute, which encompasses simulation, lab, sim-IPE, and interprofessional education programming across the schools of health, nursing, and the university at large.

Primary responsibilities include managing the simulation and lab spaces, coordinating simulation activities across programs and departments, performing teaching duties related to academic credentials, facilitating faculty development, planning for the future, marketing, and guiding the use of resources.

This position is a 12-month, full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, reporting to the Dean of Nursing.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Strategic Planning for I-SAIL department with IPE Director
  • Manages the nursing simulation/lab budget
  • Develops and enforces policies and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient use of Lab, Sim and Sim-IPE learning spaces, equipment, and supplies in collaboration with the IPE Director
  • Leads the supervision, onboarding, and orientation for the Simulation Operations Specialist and the Nursing Lab Manager roles
  • Assists with the onboarding and orientation for Simulation Specialist Faculty
  • Leads, mentors, and coaches staff and faculty associated with I-SAIL
  • Coach and mentor the Nursing Lab Manager in the management of SLAs
  • Co-leads I-SAIL committee and advisory councils
  • Management of simulation equipment and technology, including plans for maintenance, repair, depreciation, and replacement
  • Oversight of the simulated participant program
  • Mentorship, evaluation, and feedback of faculty and staff in simulation best practices
  • Oversight and ongoing management of the program's accreditation
  • Jointly with IPE Director, collaborate with stakeholders across campus and externally to sustain and grow the programming offered by I-SAIL
  • Oversees the collection of data on learning outcomes for simulation learning experiences in collaboration with the IPE Director and collaborates with faculty on the dissemination of findings
  • Leads the I-SAIL outcomes-based assessment processes in collaboration with the IPE director
  • Serves as an educational consultant to internal and external constituencies
  • Prepares reports on program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, external meetings, educational concerns, and student successes as they relate to simulation, Sim-IPE, and IPE across HSSHS and SoN in collaboration with the IPE director
  • Leads and supports faculty development and professional goal setting for faculty within I-SAIL, and supports evaluations for those faculty
  • Works with IT to ensure simulation technologies are supported for learning activities
  • Design, teach, evaluate, and revise course content to reflect evidence-based practice and the most current knowledge in the field as assigned
  • Carry out excellence in teaching and advising with diverse student populations
  • Develop and demonstrate learner-centered objectives and strategies
  • Collaborate with other faculty to teach in areas of content expertise
  • Design and deliver simulation learning activities
  • Participate in the development and delivery of co-curricular Sim-IPE learning activities.
  • Adhere to defined grading procedures and standards in accordance with the grading policies of the University
  • Establish positive relationships with students to promote their success.
  • Refer students to support services as appropriate
  • Attend events to orient, support, celebrate, and/or reward student activities.
  • Establish office hours to accommodate student needs in alignment with University policies
  • Engages in professional development activities that develop expertise and enhance the ability to fulfill responsibilities as a faculty member
  • Keep current on interprofessional education and simulation research, and best practices through continuing education
  • Develop and carry out scholarly activities in collaboration with faculty, students, and the community in an area of interest and relevance to simulation and/or in alignment with departmental norms
  • Develop and carry out scholarly activities related to the scholarship of teaching and learning in the area of simulation and/or interprofessional education
  • Disseminates scholarship with external audiences through publication and/or presentation at the University, local, and national levels
  • Lead the I-SAIL committee, the I-SAIL Advisories, and one I-SAIL sub-committee
  • Support faculty development related to simulation across the HSSHS and SoN
  • Participate in university-wide activities such as commencement ceremonies, convocations, faculty meetings and hearings, and faculty development events
  • Demonstrate willingness to serve on university-wide committees, ad hoc committees, and task forces
  • Develop and implement professional goals that contribute to the achievement of the goals and strategic plan of the I-SAIL department and the University
  • Collaborate and consult with other departments and programs in the University as appropriate
  • Provide service to their professional and interprofessional initiatives through membership and engagement in state and national professional associations

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in a healthcare professional or related discipline
  • Program development experience
  • Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator or equivalent, demonstrating years of experience in simulation-based education methodology
  • Two to five years of teaching or instructional experience with adult learners

  • A doctoral degree in nursing or a healthcare-related educational field
  • SSH Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator- Advanced (CHSE-A)
  • Five to 10 years of clinical experience
  • Previous leadership experience in simulation programs

  • Versed in emerging simulation technologies
  • Versed in Simulation Accreditation standards

Compensation:
The salary for this position is $93,104 - $106,000 depending on qualifications and experience.

The salary range listed reflects a good-faith estimate of what we reasonably anticipate to pay for this position, based on market data and internal equity, at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, and other relevant factors. St. Catherine reserves the right to modify or adjust compensation depending on University needs.
