2 positions available (one in Danvers and one in Lynn)
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM, with one remote day per week
Non-benefited, Grant-funded, MCCC unit position
SALARY: $35.31/hour
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
North Shore Community College seeks two dynamic, student-focused professionals to serve as Part-Time Transfer Counselors. One will be based at the Lynn Campus and one at the Danvers Campus. These roles emphasize transfer advising as the primary responsibility, while also supporting students through general academic counseling. Each counselor will manage a caseload of at least 75 students and engage with them through one-on-one advising, walk-in hours, group sessions, and virtual services. The position supports the College's mission by promoting transfer awareness, student success, and degree completion.

ESSENTIAL FUCTIONS:
Transfer Advising (Primary Focus)
- Advise students on selecting academic pathways aligned with transfer goals and career plans.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on transfer policies, including MassTransfer, Commonwealth Commitment, A2B Pathways, Massachusetts Guarantee, and articulation agreements.
- Provide individual and group advising on transfer planning, institution research, deadlines, and scholarship opportunities.
- Support students with transfer applications, transcript requests, and application follow-up.
- Create and deliver transfer-related presentations and workshops for students, faculty, and student groups.
- Collaborate with four-year institutions and participate in transfer events and initiatives.
- Utilize technology and advising tools to monitor students' academic progress and transfer readiness.
- Other duties as assigned.
Academic Advising
- Provide holistic, student-centered academic advising to support course selection, degree completion, and time-to-graduation planning.
- Interpret placement test results and advise students on appropriate course sequencing.
- Develop academic plans using EAB Navigate.
- Refer students to campus resources including tutoring, career services, financial aid, and wellness services.
Student Retention & Engagement
- Conduct proactive communication and outreach to assigned caseloads using Navigate, email, phone, and text.
- Monitor academic standing, identify students in need of intervention, and conduct follow-up outreach.
- Participate in in-person walk-in advising and staff NSCC's virtual advising platform (CentroHUB).
- Build supportive relationships with students that promote equity, inclusion, and persistence.
Administrative & Collaborative Work
- Maintain accurate and timely advising notes and records in EAB Navigate and related systems.
- Engage in campus-based programming such as transfer fairs, new student registration events, professional development, open house, etc.;
- Collaborate with faculty and departments to support student achievement and ensure advising accuracy.
- Attend ongoing professional development to stay informed of transfer policies and best practices.
Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in education, counseling, psychology, student development, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in academic advising, transfer counseling, or college admissions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with student support technologies and virtual advising platforms.
- Ability to work some evenings or Saturdays and to travel between Lynn and Danvers campuses.
- Candidate will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Massachusetts transfer programs and statewide policies (e.g., MassTransfer, Commonwealth Commitment, Mass Guarantee).
- Experience advising or counseling in a community college setting.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities, with preference for Spanish.
- Familiarity with EAB Navigate and Banner.
