The Graduate School of Library and Information Studies in the Harrington School of Communication and Media at the University of Rhode Island is hiring a tenure-track faculty member specializing in school library media to coordinate the School Library Media program, beginning in Fall 2026. This position is a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track appointment.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching accelerated online graduate courses in school library media, including at least two courses in our existing school library media track, at least one required core course, and the school library media practicum.
  • Coordinating our existing school library media program that leads to licensure as all-grades media specialist.
  • Liaising with the Feinstein College of Education and managing SLM program accreditations.
  • Maintaining an active research agenda leading to a sustained record of publications.
  • Advising students and contributing to departmental and university service.
  • Seeking external funding as appropriate.
  • Participating in state, regional, national, and international professional organizations.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    REQUIRED

    1. PhD in Library and Information Studies or equivalent doctoral degree by appointment date.

    2. Master's degree leading to licensure as all-grades library media specialist.

    3. Experience as a certified school library media specialist or international equivalent.

    4. Ability to teach in higher education, including at least one required core course in the GSLIS curriculum, two SLM courses, and the SLM practicum course.

    5. Evidence of a scholarly research agenda.

    PREFERRED:

    • Experience as a public school library media specialist.
    • Experience in teaching online.
    • Experience advising in higher education.
    • Ability to secure external funding.
    • Ability to participate in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and service.
    • Experience teaching non-traditional students.
