Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking a skilled and motivated Custodial Services Associate Director to help lead the university's efforts in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming campus environment. Summary of Responsibilities

Ensures that all University facilities are maintained in a manner which provides a clean and safe environment by developing departmental procedures and guidelines which address these objectives. Directs the priorities for daily work assignments, including special projects, supervising the activities of custodial and facilities services personnel, anticipating requirements for exceptional efforts and developing appropriate contingency plans, and inspecting the quality of work performed. Ensures efficient use of the computerized maintenance management work order systems and ensures timely closeout of open requests. Develops an effective staff by hiring qualified applicants, ensuring training of employees to proper standards, supervising the performance of departmental tasks either directly or indirectly, overseeing the evaluation of employee performance, directing corrective measures to be taken when necessary, and planning the professional development of Custodial Services personnel. Directs the general appearance of facilities, equipment repair, vehicle up-keep, furniture set-ups and small moves, furniture repaiir and/or replacement, carpet and flooring repair, ceiling tile replacement and other minor maintenance repairs, and reporting of facilities operational needs. Manages and monitors budget, purchasing, billing, cost analysis, testing, labor costs and other budget requirements. Investigates alternatives for reducing operational costs while maintaining a high level of service to students, residents, faculty and staff. Provides quality, responsive and courteous customer service to the college community. Ensures that custodial and maintenance personnel have the equipment and supplies necessary to perform services by reviewing requests from supervisors for supplies and equipment, requisitioning for replacement items as necessary, and directing the storage of supplies and equipment in a secure facility. Coordinates supply chemical and equipment testing; analyzes results and upgrades as necessary. Provides administrative support and direction to Department Managers for Campus Recycling for all on and off campus buildings.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a directly related field and two years experience related to the Summary of Duties or a combination of education and/or experience totaling six years.

Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience in a leadership capacity.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of custodial and maintenance procedures, practices, supplies, machinery, and related equipment and the ability to instruct others in their proper application are required.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Working knowledge of floor care, chemical usage, safety, and general custodial techniques.
Skills
  • Supervisory skills, particularly the ability to instruct others are required. Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team is required.
  • Management and administrative skills, particularly the ability to develop and manage a budget, as well as analyze, organize, plan, and delegate, are required.
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving, decision making, and conflict resolution are required.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Familiarity with public access requirements concerning individuals with disabilities (current Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards for Accessible Design) is preferred.
Abilities
  • Ability to understand verbal and nonverbal instruction with a diverse group.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures and ability to instruct others in their proper application.
  • Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
