Job Summary
The ADD program is a contract site funded through NINDS dedicated to testing drugs to treat epilepsy. Employees perform technical procedures in a research laboratory by applying standard scientific techniques and analytical principles. The Lab Technician position can include; calculating, formulating and administering investigational compounds, performing experiments using rodent models, recording observations, collecting samples, generating reports, maintaining a breeding colony, and working independently. This position is also responsible for ordering supplies and equipment needed and maintaining a clean lab space.

Laboratory Technician, II
Essential Functions
- Confers with senior laboratory personnel regarding the procedures and techniques to be followed in conducting research and recommends modifications as needed.
- Performs tests and procedures using laboratory equipment.
- Monitors and assists with purchasing of laboratory supplies and materials.
- Conducts literature reviews to obtain abstracts and information to be utilized in research.
- Makes statistical calculations, analyzes data and prepares reports summarizing results.
- May supervise the care of research animals; perform minor animal surgery or collect animal tissues and specimens for laboratory analysis.
- May oversee the operations of student course experiments in a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or other scientific discipline or equivalency prefered; with a minimum of 1yr Experience. Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, terminology, materials and substances. Experience in handling mice and rats, dosing calculations, administering drugs, collecting samples, and using laboratory equipment preferred. Ability to create and analyze statistical calculations and prepare reports required; great organizational skills and effective communication skills also required.
OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification required.

Problem Solving
Must be adept at identifying and resolving problems that arise during experiments or tests. Whether it's a malfunctioning piece of equipment, an unexpected result, must be able to troubleshoot effectively to maintain the integrity of their work.
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Laboratory Technician, II: Requires at least 1 year of related experience.
