Job Description:

The Research Assistant at the School of Public Health's Department of Health Services Policy & Practice supports the research activities of Principal Investigators (PI) Michael Barnett and Ateev Mehrotra. The Research Assistant is involved in health services research to better understand and develop policies to understand the delivery of digital health, promote access to high quality care, improve patient outcomes, and drive structural change in U.S. health care delivery. Current projects include examining regulation and use of digital health technologies, access to medications for opioid use disorder, education and quality of care of nurse practitioners, subspecialization of the healthcare workforce, and primary care access.

The Barnett and Mehrotra Labs are growing research groups in the process of increasing research efficiency, output, and impact. The Research Assistant will have the opportunity to contribute to these efforts in ways that align with their career goals. The position is ideal for candidates with an interest in economics, health services research, medicine, and related fields and who have plans for doctoral studies or further research training after working as a Research Assistant. The position works closely with the PIs, faculty collaborators, postdoctoral fellow, and project director on a range of project-related activities, with a focus on developing emerging papers/grants, building novel data sets, and growing lab capacity and strategic direction. The position works collaboratively with faculty-led teams in a dynamic environment that encourages independent thinking, problem solving, and collegiality.

Job Qualifications

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree (BA or BS).

Experience:

1 year experience in health policy research (or related field) ideal. Coursework in related fields can substitute for experience.

  • Ability to set goals and work independently to manage both short- and long-term responsibilities.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing conditions and priorities.

  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Computer skills (word processing, data management, Power Point, reference manager).

    All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification satisfactory to Brown University.

    This is a fixed term position with an end date of 10/31/26 which may be extended based upon available funding.

    This position is Hybrid Eligible.
