What We Are Looking For

Baylor University is seeking a TIP Residential Summer Assistant Director. Baylor TIP's mission is to identify students with exceptional talent in STEM and the humanities and provide them with world-class learning opportunities commensurate with their potential. During the summer, students in grades 8-12 who have been admitted to TIP have an opportunity to take advanced classes while living in a Baylor residence hall. The TIP Residential Summer Assistant Director provides administrative support for the residential program, creating a safe and supportive community for students and providing fun and engaging activities for them in the evenings and on weekends. The position requires living in the residence hall with faculty, staff, and students for training, set-up, and the duration of the program, typically throughout the month of June. For the three weeks that students are living in the dorms, the Assistant Director's daily schedule and time off will vary. The Assistant Director is on call at all times, though, to assist with emergencies, should any arise.

Minimum Required Education and Skills
  • Completed bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience working with adolescents
  • Ability to communicate effectively and positively with students, families, and other staff
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills

Preferred Education and Skills
  • Completed graduate degree in education, counseling, or related field
  • Previous leadership experience in education/camp setting
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service

Applications must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Job Responsibilities
  • Complete all required trainings and job-specific assignments prior to working with students
  • Assist the Director of Pre-Collegiate Programs in the logistical operations of the program, which includes student arrival, orientation sessions for parents and students, and student check-out as well as daily programming when students are staying in the dorms
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise during the day-to-day running of the program
  • Respond to concerns from students, staff, and parents in a positive and constructive manner
  • Be a visible presence to students, faculty, and staff throughout the program
  • Meet regularly with the residential staff to plan and implement evening and weekend activities for students that align with Baylor TIP's mission and goals
  • Collaborate with the Director of Pre-Collegiate Programs to provide training and support to staff
  • Develop duty schedules for residential staff and provide oversight and support as needed
  • Ensure that staff are actively supervising students to ensure their safety and well-being
  • Adhere to and enforce all safety and risk management policies
  • Collaborate with the TIP leadership team to resolve any student disciplinary issues or concerns in an appropriate manner that aligns with TIP's mission and policies
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
  • Ensure staff complete all tasks required for effectively starting and closing the assignment (returning supplies that belong to Baylor, reporting any property damage that occurred during the activity, etc.)
  • Assist in providing final evaluations for staff and the program as a whole
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support Baylor's mission and the mission of Baylor TIP
  • Ability to comply with university policies
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance
