Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Title IX and Equal Opportunity, the Investigator (Title IX and Equal Opportunity) assists the Director with (1) the response and resolution of reports of discrimination, harassment, sexual and relationship violence, stalking and retaliation; (2) supports the development and implementation of educational training programs for the community. The incumbent will maintain their own caseload of investigations of faculty, staff, and student complaints of discrimination or harassment based on legally protected identities, sexual misconduct, relationship violence, stalking, and retaliation. The individual will develop and prepare comprehensive investigative reports and assist with the coordination, response, and resolution of complaints asserting violations of the College's sexual misconduct policy and equal opportunity policies, as well as all corresponding federal, state and local laws, regulations, ordinances, executive orders and guidance governing Title IX and equal opportunity. Responsibilities also include assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Office of Title IX and Equal Opportunity.

Major Areas of Responsibility
  • Conduct trauma informed investigations of complaints of discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, relationship violence, and stalking. This includes interviewing parties and witnesses, collection, documentation and review of evidence and applying other required investigative procedures based upon established policies. Develop and prepare comprehensive investigative reports based upon investigation findings.
  • Serve as a neutral party through all aspects of the complaint and resolution process to help ensure a prompt, fair, and equitable process for all parties; seek to ensure that all parties involved in investigations understand the investigatory process, their rights and responsibilities, and how to access other support and resources as necessary.
  • Assist the Director with inquiries and case management including the review of reports of misconduct, tracking of investigations and monitoring of compliance with all procedural requirements, record-keeping and timeframes as outlined in applicable College policies. Provide timely updates to the Director and other relevant individuals regarding the status of complaints received, inquiries and investigations.
  • Assist the Title IX and Equal Opportunity team in the development and coordination of Title IX and equal opportunity programming and training; conduct and disseminate education and prevention training programs, publications and materials for students, faculty, and staff related to the prevention of and response to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, sexual violence, relationship violence, and stalking in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and College policies. This will include support with the annual training for all individuals involved with grievance procedures.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Title VI, VII, IX, ADA/504 laws, regulations and guidance as necessary and current developments in the field by participating in conferences, trainings, workshops, etc. Identify and suggest best practices to the Director.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority as defined under the Clery Act.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline. All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. Degrees in psychology, counseling, human resources administration, social work or criminal justice are viewed favorably.
  • A minimum of [1] year demonstrated experience in complaint, incident, and/or grievance investigation and resolution.
  • Experience with Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act, Clery and/or VAWA
  • Experience and training regarding conducting sensitive and confidential investigations alleging discrimination and harassment, including knowledge of trauma informed practices.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state laws regarding discrimination, harassment and equal opportunity.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to both be and project neutrality and establish rapport with a diverse range of community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal appropriately with confidential information and exercise good judgment on sensitive matters.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of diversity and inclusion issues in a higher education environment.
  • Strong organization and analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle a significant caseload and manage multiple deadlines.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree preferred.
  • Over [2] years' experience in complaint and/or grievance investigation and resolution.
  • Experience in a higher education setting preferred.
  • Experience utilizing a case management database.
  • Background in human resources, student affairs, law, or diversity/inclusion programming viewed favorably.
  • Experience in alternative dispute resolution viewed favorably.
  • Experience developing or implementing training programs.

Salary: This is a full time exempt position with a salary range of $67,000-$73,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
