Job Description:

The Research Assistant (RA) will assist in conducting projects that involve studying patterns of cannabis use and related behaviors among adult cannabis users. The studies involve the collection of data in the natural environment using smartphone applications. Work activities involve managing recruitment; conducting in-person and zoom-based research sessions and qualitative interviews/coding with study participants; participant tracking and retention; managing online surveys and datafiles; and managing participant payments. The RA is expected to collaborate with project staff to maintain variable directories and other project documentation, conduct library research as needed, and assemble materials for IRB modifications and progress reports.

The RA will maintain a dual reporting relationship, working under the direction of a manager and Principal Investigator (Professor in BSS). Due to the longitudinal nature of the research, a candidate available for a two-year period is highly preferred to ensure data continuity.

Job Qualifications and Competencies

Education and Experience
  • BA or BS in psychology, public health or related field with 1-2 years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, required.
  • Coursework in research design and experience with research is preferred
  • Experience in programming online surveys (e.g., Qualtrics software) is preferred
  • Experience managing databases is preferred
  • Coursework in addiction, substance use and/or psychopharmacology is preferred

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 8/31/26 which may be extended based upon available funding.

Must be available to work onsite at Brown University
