University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

Department: Biomedical Informatics

Job Title: Laboratory Sciences Professional (Open Rank, Entry to Senior)

Position #:00844502 - Requisition #:38772

Job Summary:

The Soragni Laboratory is recruiting two full-time Laboratory Science Professionals to support research focused on patient-derived organoid models, cancer cell biology, and translational screening workflows. These roles contribute to the day-to-day execution of laboratory experiments, including organoid culture, assay preparation, and general laboratory operations.

The entry level position is intended for candidates with a Bachelor's degree who are building foundational research experience in a translational laboratory environment.

The intermediate and senior level position is intended for candidates with prior hands-on research experience. Responsibilities across both levels may include processing primary samples, maintaining three-dimensional culture systems, supporting drug screening and characterization assays, and contributing to routine laboratory management tasks such as ordering and safety compliance. Senior-level staff will additionally support troubleshooting, workflow optimization, lab management support, independent research, and training of junior personnel.

These positions support a research program centered on patient-derived organoids, high throughput screening, and translational modeling of hard-to-treat and rare cancers-

Key Responsibilities:
  • Developing, growing, and screening organoid cultures, including mini-ring organoid workflows
  • Processing patient-derived and research specimens for cell culture
  • Performing 2D and 3D cell culture, including assay setup and maintenance
  • Assisting with assay development, including mini-ring platform drug screening
  • Performing immunohistochemistry and basic cancer cell biology techniques
  • Supporting flow cytometry sample prep and basic data handling
  • Maintaining the Soragni Lab database, internal sample records, inventory, and consumables
  • Communicate workflow updates and experimental progress clearly and reliably.
  • Contribute to laboratory operations including basic safety oversight, ordering, and supply tracking.

Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Auroa, CO.

Why Join Us:

At the Soragni Lab, you will join a nationally and internationally recognized translational research program focused on functional precision oncology for rare and understudied cancers. The lab integrates patient-derived organoids, high-throughput functional screening, and multi-omic profiling to directly address clinically relevant questions in sarcomas, neuroendocrine tumors, and other hard-to-model malignancies. Trainees work at the interface of experimental biology, data-driven discovery, and patient impact, generating datasets and insights that inform therapeutic strategy, biomarker development, and clinical translation within large collaborative networks.

At the Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI), you will thrive in a vibrant research environment that embraces innovation, collaboration, and real-world impact. DBMI is committed to nurturing your professional growth and cultivating a culture that values inclusivity, rigor, and teamwork. You will have opportunities to interact with experts across disciplines, publish influential research, and elevate patient care through your discoveries. Join us and shape the future of biomedical informatics while advancing your own career.
