Job Summary:

The Department of Pathology of the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a Research Services Entry Professional - Laboratory Sciences (RSEP) focused on supporting laboratory maintenance, upkeep, and logistics. The RSEP will also support research related to the molecular biology of breast and gynecologic cancers.

The RSEP's primary role will be in managing the daily operation of the laboratory. This will include preparing stock reagents and maintaining equipment, assisting other personnel in ordering and maintaining lab supplies, and regulatory compliance. The RSEP will be responsible for updating and maintaining laboratory databases, e.g. inventory management, using electronic lab notebook tools, and will prepare and maintain an electronic lab notebook in the development and execution of the research studies. The RSEP will also support vivarium-based research and animal care and management. In supporting molecular biology research in the lab, the RSEP will utilize tissue culture and cell biology methods including proliferation assays, gene knockdown methods, and cellular signaling assays. The RSEP will be working in the laboratory with other laboratory personnel on a daily basis. Regular meetings will be held with the PI weekly.

Examples of Duties Performed:

Laboratory operation and logistics: 60%
  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigator (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
  • Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions
  • Review, complete and process logs, documents, databases, and related materials and information
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues
  • Review and implement lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs
  • Provide support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve process, unit and related issues

  • Assist with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receive guidance and direction or escalate when required

Laboratory research and research support: 40%
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects
  • Support other laboratory personnel in developing and executing experimental strategies
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results
  • Perform pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical test process and evaluate results produced



Work Location:

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite at the Anschutz campus and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or active enrollment in a master's degree program in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as for a .625 FTE:

$28,921.25 to $36,788.13

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
