Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of technical and specialized duties in the preparation, operation, and maintenance of the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios, including the FabLab digital fabrication space, sculpture studio, metal shop, woodshop, critique space, outdoor work area, and plaster studio. Operate, maintain, and perform routine repairs on equipment such as CNC routers, 3D printers, laser cutters, vinyl cutters, table saws, band saws, sanders, planers, downdraft tables, welders, and related stationary power tools, hand tools, and portable power tools.
Maintain and monitor inventory and the ordering of supplies and equipment; support faculty and student authorizations and the safe operation of tools and equipment; coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety on safety practices and compliance; prepare studios for instruction; lead equipment workshops; and provide specialized technical support to full-time and part-time art faculty and students.
- Confer with art faculty and administrators regarding laboratory and studio requirements.
- Maintain, repair, troubleshoot, and monitor the use of equipment and materials in the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Coordinate contracted equipment maintenance and services as needed.
- Maintain computer and laptop stations associated with studio operations.
- Order, receive, and assist with the installation and setup of new equipment as necessary.
- Organize and distribute tools and materials in the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Assist with the maintenance and operation of WebCheckout for the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Maintain inventory and order and stock approved materials for the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Coordinate with the chair on purchasing needs by preparing quotes, tracking expenditures, and submitting budget-related requests at monthly meetings.
- Develop and maintain area budget requests in collaboration with the chair, dean, program faculty, and Program Support Specialist.
- Maintain security, health, and safety in the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Maintain and update safety procedures in the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of studios in preparation for instruction.
- Work collaboratively with Facilities, Environmental Health and Safety, and Engineering to address studio-related needs and resolve issues.
- Prepare studios for instruction and support faculty and student authorizations and the safe operation of tools and equipment.
- Assist with equipment instruction as needed and lead equipment workshops as appropriate.
- Monitor open studio times.
- Train, supervise, and schedule student workers.
- Assist in the planning and future development of the Sculpture and Fabrication Studios.
- Perform other laboratory duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education
- Associates degree in Art or a related area required.
- Experience
- Two (2) years of related experience in digital fabrication, sculpture, woodshop or welding studio environments required.
- Effective communication and organizational skills required.
- Skilled in MAC and IBM compatible computers, Mercury Commerce requisition system, WebCheckout, various sculpture and fabrication equipment.
Working Conditions:
Hiring Range:
Starting pay begins at $21.70/hr. based on experience.
