Job Summary

The Department of Biochemistry seeks applications for a full-time Research Scientist to work in the laboratory of Prof. Natalie Ahn. The main task of the position is to investigate mechanisms involved in the regulation of MAP kinases and their impact on cancer therapeutics and drug resistance. Experimental methods include the use of biochemical and molecular biology assays to quantify protein phosphorylation and determine how phosphorylation controls protein functions. Competency with protein analysis, DNA subcloning, mammalian cell culture, light microscopy and cell imaging, and analysis of large scale datasets using R/python/Matlab. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Research-level experimental design, data collection and data analysis in biochemistry, molecular biology and cell imaging:
  • Biochemical analysis of phosphorylation for signaling pathway enzymes and downstream targets.
  • Inducible gene expression, gene depletion and CRISPR/Cas9 knock-in gene editing in mammalian cells.
  • Data collection, analysis and modeling of large-scale datasets collected by shotgun proteomics and RNAseq. Use of software package tools and R/python/Matlab coding for data analysis.
  • Quantitative cell imaging, protein localization and interactome analysis.
  • Scientific writing and manuscript preparation.
  • Collaborative interactions with research team members.


What You Should Know

  • 40 hour work week M-F, with occasional time-sensitive research tasks needed on weekends.

The hiring rate for this position is $65,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biosciences field (e.g. Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry).
  • Competency and experience with biochemical and molecular biology assays and ability to learn and develop new protocols.

  • Strong aptitude and competency with independent research, including experimental design and execution, quantitative analysis and data interpretation, literature review, and critical thinking.
  • Good communication and teaching skills.
