Summary of Responsibilities
- Digital Print Production: Operates high-volume digital printing equipment and finishing machinery in accordance with established job tickets and production schedules. Produces print jobs to defined quality, quantity, and turnaround standards. Monitors print quality, registration, color consistency, and finishing accuracy. Loads media, manages consumables, and ensures proper setup for each job. Meets daily production deadlines and throughput goals.
- Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Performs routine cleaning, calibration, and basic preventive maintenance on digital print and finishing equipment. Identifies equipment malfunctions and coordinates service with supervisors or authorized technicians. Maintains a safe, clean, and organized production environment.
- Workflow Coordination: Coordinates with prepress, pressroom, and finishing staff to ensure efficient job flow. Follows standardized production workflows and operating procedures. Communicates job status, production issues, or delays to supervisors.
- Support & Training: Assists with training students or part-time production staff in equipment operation and safety procedures. Supports special production projects as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree and two years of experience in a production printing or manufacturing environment; OR any combination of education and experience totaling four years related to print production or equipment operation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a high-volume digital print or commercial printing environment.
- Experience operating production digital presses, cutters, folders, or bindery equipment.
- Experience working in an in-plant or institutional printing operation.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
- Knowledge of high-production digital printing and finishing processes.
- Understanding of digital printing equipment operation and output controls.
- General familiarity with production workflows in a commercial or in-plant print environment.
- Awareness of print quality standards, substrates, and finishing techniques.
- Awareness of Color Standards and Color Calibrations.
- Skill in operating sophisticated digital printing and bindery equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in a high-volume environment.
- Basic computer operation skills related to production equipment interfaces.
- Ability to follow detailed job tickets and production instructions accurately.
- Ability to work under production deadlines and time constraints.
- Ability to manage multiple production tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical or operational issues.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a production team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive production tasks.
- Ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications.
